@apc When I thought of rivals (and friends) Satsuki and Mai from There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless came to my mind first. Mai is a model, an excellent student and is seen to be perfect. Satsuki is an excellent student as well and is also known as the school’s cool beauty. They’re childhood friends, always competing and can be downright mean to each other. However, deep down they also really care about each other.

@apc ...but as delightful as many of them are, especially Chihaya and Shinobu, they are still more straightforward. Certainly Taichi's biggest rivalry is against himself and his circumstance, and I have a lot to say about all the best best characters in Chihayafuru, but on the "rivalry" front?

We are going to want a lot more. So this time we will #AniMangaFoundIt through the works of Mitsuru Adachi, ending on this pair of rival pairs in Cross Game, but proceeding through many more. (Especially H2 and Katsu) Cross Game and Chihayafuru for me are themselves "rivals for the best-constructed high school competitive arcs" and so welcome to the rabbit hole! (Fitting, today.)

Also, after missing both Cats and an absolute easy option with the most recent challenge, it's time to get back to the #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc )! This week, it's "Rivals".

My pick is from "Dive!!". And, well, is there such thing as an Unrequited Rivalry?

Mizuki Diving Club's Fujitani is the best diver in the club, an elegant executor of dives, a fierce competitor, and a role model for everyone in the club.

However, he is challenged by Miyagi Spirits' Yamada (aka "Pinky") - a dramatic man who wants nothing else than to take down Fujitani in competition, and prove once and for all that he's a better diver.

And in practices, he is - flawless, and full of vigour.

@apc I'm going to make it easy on myself and repeat the Max Jelenius & Milia combo from Macross! They met on the battlefield, both the ace of their respective flights, but not good enough to down the other... A heated rivalry was the result, with Milia undergoing micronization in order to sneak aboard the Macross to kill Max outside of the cockpit!

Rivals? How about the romance type. *In The Clear Moonlit Dusk* featured primary love interest (Kohaku, white hair) who showed his interest early, while the other (Takuto, lighter brown hair) confessed his feelings later. There's moments of tension, misunderstanding, and warmth in this show, as well as a clear choice that Yoi's made by the time the series wraps up.
