Crossfield, Alberta, Canada. Iconic prairie scene with train and grain elevator. There can't be too many of these left, and it's unclear if this particular one is still being used. Apparently, there were six wooden elevators here in the 1960s alone.

Folks in #Alberta who want to see an #IronLung #Ventilator in-person can visit the Homestead Antique Museum in #Drumheller (the geodesic-dome shaped museum), as well as the Reverend Forbes Homestead and Hospital Museum in #GrandePrairie.

(Perhaps other sites as well? These are all I know of.)

From Edmonton House, the outgoing York Factory Express continued their journey down the North Saskatchewan River, heading for Fort Pitt and Carlton House. "Our arrangements being completed, we Embarked at 9 am & pursued our route up the Athabasca River. Our Brigade being distributed into three Canoes, very deeply laden, each Canoe has seven Men besides boys, but heavy laden as we are to make Comparatively quick progress to what we did in the Boats ascending the #Saskatchewan River, and the Canadian Crews appear very well pleased with the change,... #Canoes #Canoeing #AlbertaHistory #HistoricJourney #Books .

At the Ball, "I was not a little amazed to see Scotch reels, and even Country Dances, danced with a spirit & grace that would not disgrace a far more refined Society. Among the half breeds, and Canadians particularly, I observed some excellent dancers, & the half breed girls, tho' evidently not so proficient in that Art, made a very good appearance & seemed much pleased with the Entertainment. We have all reason to feel obliged to Mr. Rowand... #AlbertaHistory

"Started this morning a little after midnight and sailed to the upper end of the long reach by 10 o'clock. Here we found 2 men with 8 horses from #Edmonton House -- from them we got a little deer's meat. At noon we resume our journey with a strong breeze. Four men proceed along shore with the horses. Passed Vermilion Creek at half past 1 pm. Encamped 3/4 before 8 o'clock some distance above the Frog Rapid. #Saskatchewan River #AlbertaHistory #AmWriting #Books

"On arriving at the foot of the Grand Cote, and looking back upon the immense Mountain that you have just descended, you cannot avoid feeling some degree of amazement at the feat you have performed, and the idea forces itself upon the mind, that this is by no means an agreeable barrier between separated friends. How the poor Horses with their loads succeeded in getting down this immense Hill is most extraordinary. #Canada #CanadaHistory #AlbertaHistory #Books
