Speaking of stupid crap #ABgov is pulling: By now many if you know that #AISH recipients were all forced to apply for the Federal Canada Disability Benefit which would provide up to $200/mo to qualifying #DisabledCanadians and which #Alberta is clawing back, dollar for dollar.
What I didn't realise is that this is being managed federally similar to a tax credit, so pays from July 2025 through June 2026 inclusive.
Which also means recipients get a lump sum payment for prior months to whenever they were accepted.
Sometime after you provide AISH with proof of your #CDB, they will then have the collections dept contact you to "recover" this overpayment from the prior months' "overpayment."
So for goodness sake, set that lump sum aside and don't touch it until uou can just send it to them, or they will be deducting significantly MORE per month than JUST the regular monthly Federal benefit.
Just got off the phone with #811 to book my 2025 #Alberta #covid and #flu #vaccinations.
Holey moley what a nightmare. TBC, the 811 agent was FAB once I got through. โค๏ธ
But, 811 has ~57 seconds worth of messages prior to being able to make ANY selections.
Currently it is x3 for booking a covid vaccination.
THEN, once in x3, you need to select x2 for booking (as x1 is 'for information about covid').
A lovely intercept comes on to explain 'higher than usual call volumes' (you know, what every phone system ever has said pretty much for the last decade๐) AND THEN sends you to on-hold music โฆ only to most-likely have ANOTHER message intercept to let you know they're too busy and "goodbye." ๐ณ๐ก
Fastest redial and menu selections I could manage was every 2 minutes. Took 1 hour of redialling like this to get to the actual on-hold #queue, and was then another hour on-hold.
If using a cellphone, make sure you have a powerbank/charger handy! ๐ฌ
Hey, what's going on with the #CBC weekend #news service? When Tim Devlin (#Edmonton ?) did the weekend news, there was weather, etc for all major centres in #Alberta.
Today (May 17) we're getting #Calgary-only news and #WeatherForecast
I have no issues that CBC streamlines news for weekends, but if it is broadcasting province-wide, the news/weather needs to reflect that.
Folks in #Alberta who want to see an #IronLung #Ventilator in-person can visit the Homestead Antique Museum in #Drumheller (the geodesic-dome shaped museum), as well as the Reverend Forbes Homestead and Hospital Museum in #GrandePrairie.
(Perhaps other sites as well? These are all I know of.)
4. At Valemont #BC, a reception centre supplied shelter to those it could. However, the entire population of a major #NationalPark town and all its visitors is relatively huge.
5. Many evacuees were then directed back to #Alberta to the cities of #GrandPrairie #yqu and #Calgary #yyc. These are long journeys following mountain highways.
