a) wasn't ugly
b) is plug in with battery backup
c) alarm sound options that aren't jarring (beep beep)
d) easy to hit snooze button

We all have the most wondrous phones/cameras/computers in our pockets all the time, and most of us have access to the best alarm clock apps in the world. There are no more angry glowing red LED numbers in the middle of the night and waking up to "ARRR, ARRR, ARRR, ARRR" unless that is what you are into.

But as I sit here wide awake listening to actual predawn birds outside at 4:40am, I think perhaps conditioning myself to wake up at bird calls was a mistake.
