#Alberta’s proposed Wonder Valley #AI Data Centre Park is slated to be the world’s largest.

While advertised as an economic jackpot powering innovation with natural gas, the project faces a major legal challenge from the Sturgeon Lake #Cree Nation over water rights and a lack of consultation.

The dispute underscores a critical question: What does #Canada’s AI future demand from our land, water, and energy systems?”

Canada’s AI strategy must reckon with the environmental implications of data centres

AI is often described as if it lives in the cloud. The persistent controversies regarding the Wonder Valley project in Alberta illustrate how false that is.

We're apparently now at more than 100mm rainfall for the weekend, with another couple centimetres expected tonight.

FYI to #YEG folks: Most of the Edmonton area is now under alert asking people to avoid sending excess water down the drain because it might come back up in someone's basement. Beaumont & St Albert seem to be most urgent about it (I guess they have shared sewer / stormwater systems?). And roads are closed due to flooding in some rural areas

I didn't get a phone alert, but all the advisory alerts for #Alberta folks are available here:

Lots of rain yesterday, overnight + off/on today at times heavy. Last week was similar with some sunny breaks- I was only able to do yard/garden work a couple of times, but I'm still glad about the rain- recharging soil moisture, wetlands, water table. There should be a couple of sunny days mid-week, I'll have to be really efficient on those days- even if I'm tempted to just wander around with the camera looking at bugs! Photo details in alt
