Apologies for digressing somewhat into the weeds: the point is that all of this figuring-stuff-out on an #AISH (provincial #disability pension) that has not risen since 2016, is expensive, time- and (personal)energy-intensive AND are all genuinely monumental accomplishments given my disabilities and lack of functionality in extreme heat.

My #mitigations don't even necessarily make things comfortable, they just make it less-likely I'll die from preventable consquences of #ExtremeHeat.

And this point is important, because I HAVE been successful in not-dying (yay! 🙂), but the mitigations are NOT SUFFICIENT for me to live a 'normal life' (my normal, under my normal range of restrictions/challenges) during the #FireSeason and #HeatSeason.

IOW, not a lot of extras get done during these extended periods.

😨 #AISh
Advocates push back on Danielle Smith's comment that people are moving to Alberta for social programs
The premier said her government wants to ensure programs like Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped, or AISH, aren't "overly generous," and that she's heard people have moved to Alberta just to take advantage of its social programs. Some disability advocates want the data that backs this up.

This homeless man is far more knowledgeable on current affairs than most! Goes to show we should not judge a book by its cover. #AISH funding is being clawed back by #DanielleSmith and the #Alberta government. Some say "I can't imagine how an "independent Alberta" would treat the disabled." I can.

Literally THREE DAYS before CHRISTMAS and I still have NOT gotten my #deposit.

Uh, there's about a $35 to $40 increase in my #Aish amount deposited into my account this morning. I thought I read somewhere that we weren't getting indexed an increase this year, I'm not complaining I'm just surprised! Even when I talked to my Aish worker in Nov they didn't know if we were getting 1!

[See upthread for more information+context]

If you are receiving AISH in Alberta, you must apply for the Canada Disability Benefit and Disability Tax Credit (both are out-of-pocket expenditures for the applications). Whether you are accepted or rejected: you must apply for BOTH programs, and report the status of such with AISH.

Failing to do so will result in a $200 deduction from your benefits, starting this month.

The link to report your application status is included below. I've also included a poster you can share, to ensure that people in your community have this information - as it seems not to have been announced very clearly (gee, I wonder why...)
