Freimaurerstraßen in Bremen
Salvador Allende (1908–1973) war Arzt, Sozialist und Präsident Chiles. Bis heute gilt er als eine der prägenden politischen Persönlichkeiten Lateinamerikas. Allende war auch Freimaurer. Seine maurerische Laufbahn begann 1935 in der Loge „Progreso Nr. 4“ in Valparaíso.
Dass sein Name auch in Bremen präsent ist, zeigt die Salvador-Allende-Straße im Ostertor.

The Masonic hospital in Hamburg suffered under the National Socialist (Nazi) regime, as did all Masonic facilities. To protect its work, the administration changed the nature of the hospital into an association and then, in 1935, as pressure against Freemasonry increased, changed the name of the hospital.
Renamed the Elizabeth Hospital it - secretly - bore the name of the mother of John the Baptist, patron saint of Freemasonry.

The first explicitly for Freemasonry designed and erected Lodge building was constructed in Große Drehbahn in Hamburg, and officially opened in 1800.
A Masonic hospital opened in Dammtorwahl on 3 October 1795, designed initially for female domestic servants, it expanded in a few years later with a separate section for male servants.
Both buildings were commissioned by the original Five Hamburg Lodges, all of which work today.
April 2 is celebrated in Masonic circles as the birthdate of several iconic figures:
In 1725 Bro. Giovanni Giacomo Giralamo Casanova - initiated in Lyons 1750.
In 1843 Bro. Frédéric August Bartholdi, sculptor of the statue of liberty - initiated in Alsace-Lorraine 1875.
In 1875 Bro. Walter Chrysler - initiated into Apollo Lodge in Ellis, KS.
The mosaic floor, beloved by the Romans of old and one of many Masonic requisites, symbolises light and dark, male and female, good and bad among many other opposites. It is a reminder to all Masons that, as we go through life, there will be high and low points, and we should always walk and act with due care and attention.

Although Freemasonry can be said to be based upon Christian beliefs, it has always been open to all beliefs and faiths in its purest form.
It was not until 1760 that Bro William Preston moved, in the Grand Lodge of England, that the Book of Sacred Law be made one of the Three Great Lights in Masonry. While this has been accepted by many Grand Lodges worldwide, it is not universal, and many Lodges do not have just this book on their altars.
The Landmarks of the Grand Lodge of Nevada, passed in September 1872, include:
Every person, to be made a Mason, must be a man of lawful age, free born, and hale and sound, as a man ought to be.
The ballot for candidates is strictly and inviolably secret.
No one can be made a Mason except in a lawful Lodge, duly convened, after petition and acceptance by unanimous vote.
These Landmarks are also enshrined in Masonic usage.
