We're seeing a lot of initiatives across Europe and the EU to replace Microsoft services with #Linux and #OpenSource solutions.

This could be massive for Linux and the entire community, so I'm sharing my thoughts on why this is happening, why it's great, but also why it could still very much die down very quickly:

Privacy, #Security, and #Anonymity are important concepts to understand, and the importance of #Privacy is unquestionable: "So much of our modern society is structured around information. When you shop online, read the news, look something up, vote, seek directions, or really anything else, you are relying on information. If we live in an information society, our information matters, and therefore privacy matters."

Rant: year of Linux on the desktop

A rant about “year of Linux on the desktop” from a tired old man. I’ve been part of the Linux community since before Linux was called Linux. Over the years there’s been many people telling me directly that Linux is silly or wrong or imperfect, or that free and open source software is foolish or pointless. A lot more people have, of course, pontificated along those lines

Have a great year with lots of news to keep us updated on privacy issues. 💪

@tsherrygeo I use Standard Notes on #fdroid . It's all encrypted, has a web access (practical when you are at your pc) but the free version is somewhat limited.
The thing that I miss the most in the free version is the check boxes type of list.

For the past few years, we have seen a lot of discussions around the concept of the Software Supply Chain. These discussions started around the time of LeftPad and escalated with multiple incidents in the past few years. The problem of all the work in this domain is that it forgets a fundamental point.

This is such an amazing video essay deep dive on how the internet was sold to the highest bidder and how we must take it back.

We must "establish a constellation of alternatives" to corporate social media and other billion dollar tech firms. #FOSS is the way to do that; from pretty much the birth of digital computing, it has always been the way forward.
