Rant: year of Linux on the desktop

A rant about “year of Linux on the desktop” from a tired old man. I’ve been part of the Linux community since before Linux was called Linux. Over the years there’s been many people telling me directly that Linux is silly or wrong or imperfect, or that free and open source software is foolish or pointless. A lot more people have, of course, pontificated along those lines

Rant: year of Linux on the desktop – OSnews

@osnews good article. I really don't give a 💩 about it. I've been using Linux in my personal devices for years now. I'm productive. My data is safe. 💆

@osnews

It's like asking about the year of MacOS on the desktop: depending on your case uses and tastes, for you it happened decades ago or never will happen.

Same for Windows, really.

About the most used desktop OS throne: since nobody ask when will MacOS will overtake Windows, why do people ask the same of Linux? Is it even a good idea?

@osnews I don't see a problem. manual installation and full customization is a plus! it's an advantage. this is why people choose Linux.
I use Linux for decades. on desktop, on servers, at home and at work. I came to a point when I use my own customized build of whole distributive. because customization and manual select and building of all software (including patches, of course!) gives the best freedom of software ever. and drivers debug is very easy on Linux. this is just excellent system!
@osnews and Linux has the allmighty console tools and utilities for everything. I do almost everything in console and this is very effective and handy.
