Firefighter by trade. Armchair psychologist by hobby.
I'm currently, studying:
#IT #Linux #Python, with plans of moving into #Cybersecurity

I like reading #fiction, but listening to #nonfiction. I'm a PC gamer, a WoW enthusiast, and were it not for my aging shoulders, knees, and back, I'd live on a pickleball court.

Thanks for stopping by. Talk to you soon.

As a child, the library was peace for me. Free from bullies and the madness of my home life, it was my sanctuary where I traveled through books. My temple, my church, my safe place. I could not live without books.
I can't wait until my daily feed ignores Twitter entirely, and becomes its own thing.

I'm getting really tired of spam registrations on Pixelfed.

Debating between going nuclear on spam or embracing biz accounts with limited visibility.

The nuclear option would involve a central service that PF servers could query to reject signups before account creation

For those of you who have used it, what do you think of technology like #ChatGPT ?

How do you think it will change many industries moving forward?

There were three men came out of the West
Three kings both great and high
And they have sworn a solemn oath
John Mastodon must die.

They took a tank and ran him down
With bullets in his head
And they have sworn a solemn oath
John Mastodon was dead

But when the Spring came kindly on
And showers began to fall
John Mastodon got up again
And did surprise them all...

Just going to keep beating this drum: Every parent of school-aged kids I know is currently or has recently been going modestly insane due to unremitting kid sickness, self sickness, and attendant life and work disruption. Let's all keep that in mind.

Having now been on #Mastodon for 1 month, a few observations:

- Mastodon makes me realize how much the #Twitter algorithm maximized user outrage to boost engagement for profit. Gross. Here, my feed is interesting & supportive.

- There's a culture of kindness - at least so far. It's extremely appealing & should be normalized on & offline.

- Beyond reactions to toots, people share songs, poetry & ask great questions. I can't remember the last time I found social media to be fun.

What have we learned? Never again should we go to a social company that does not promise portability and interoperability, that does not federate with others, that is not sufficiently open-source to allow emergent innovation from users. This is a test.
