Like many of us, I am new to Mastodon: a Twitter refugee. I would rather write about music I like and maybe art, but that is not the world that we live in. When the world is on fire, we need to talk about it. Quality Journalism matters. History matters. Respect sources.

The Galactic Cow: Conversations about teaching, the Universe, and everything: Meet the Galactic Cow ♥

we recorded this mini-episode to answer the question "why are we here?" but only for the podcast, not to cause an existential crisis!  we liked the idea of introducing ourselves separately, so here we are - it was just that simple.  emareena and ambar are both adult educators and are interested in how teaching and learning need to grow and expand, just as humanity needs to grow and evolve.    we started our work together as part of a state-wide diversity and equity collective, and have been moving together in that space for several years.  we discovered a mutual fascination with , justice, tending relationship, liberation, bell hooks, paulo friere, and joy in teaching and learning.  galactic cow is a place for us to bring these ideas and more into practice, as a way to fundamentally reshape learning and teaching.   references:  emareena's book "" (first book about the impacts of trauma and adult learning and the first guide to teaching in prison), and the .  here's the card, Dream Wide Awake (#31), and its explanation:  theme music: composed and performed by (, , ) thanks friend! editing & production:  emareena (who is relieved this is mostly listenable) logo:  emareena, who loves Galactica very much, and will be occasionally posting on

The fact that it’s the husband suing illustrates how these abortion laws were never not about “protecting life” but rather about power and control and domination and abuse https://twitter.com/TexasTribune/status/1634282727821266963

Today marks the commemoration of the 58th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, a pivotal moment in the fight for voting rights in America. Let us honor the sacrifices made by civil rights activists and recognize the continued work that must be done. #BlackMastodon
I did a workshop on AI (including ChatGPT) for our faculty earlier this month, and it's already dated. Nevertheless some folks have found this little 25 minute video helpful. https://catwiki.xula.edu/AI Among other things it tells the story of how we discovered the world was ending about eight weeks before everyone else. #AI #FacDev @edutooters

Meet the woman behind early @NASA_Landsat images: Dr. Valerie L. Thomas.

A self-taught programmer, she managed the development of Landsat image processing. Her work in the '70s helped show that satellite imagery could be used to support agriculture. https://go.nasa.gov/3EJMPgT #BHM

ChatGPT appears to have a refined sense of the absurd. I asked it to write a ridiculous (but standard) Republican-Democrat, both-sides New York Times political story, and it did exactly that.

The U.S. Supreme Court is a dumpster fire.

-- Supreme Court justices used personal emails for work
-- ‘burn bags’ were left open in hallways,
-- Staff afraid to confront justices on bad security practices

Here's the news story:

And the SCOTUS report: https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/19/politics/read-scotus-report-dobbs/index.html

"The McGonigal story is huge, and the NYT still has a lot of explaining to do...

It was the real "October Surprise" - 2016 deceptions that put #Trump in the White House, fueled by #FBI leaks

Knowing now that a top FBI agent went to work for a billionaire #Putin ally, the #NYTimes need to reveal the truth of these stories."

If @willbunch wrote it, you should read it.© And I thread it 🧵 👇 1/...

The NYT should tell readers whether it helped crooked FBI agents get Trump elected in 2016

The arrest of a high-level FBI agent on Russia-tied corruption charges raises stunning new questions about how Trump really won in 2016.
