It almost always comes down to transport...
Windships and bikes are the answer, now what was the question.
Happy with any pronouns you wish to use for me.

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about kids. I mentioned elimination communication and talked a bit about the fact that we left the US because cars decrease the ability of kids to be independent.

There are a few interesting connections there. Both are expressions of youth liberation. Babies don't actually want to use diapers, so forcing them to use diapers is actually pretty oppressive. But capitalism both forces people to force their children to use them, and erased the cultural knowledge that there was a way of doing things before diapers. This creates the whole problem of potty training and delays their ability to be independent. Diaper companies have pushed that age as high as 4 for a lot of kids.

Cars make it impossible for older kids to make a lot of their own decisions around transit, thus forcing them to rely on their parents.

Both of these exist to sell products that don't actually need to exist. But the real interesting thing is how diapers are almost a metaphor for car culture right now. People didn't want cars. They fought against cars and car infrastructure, but car companies destroyed mass transit and crushed resistance. Now it's time to get out of cars, and we're stuck. Humanity is shitting it's pants because it's learned to be OK with the feeling.

My kids are both potty trained now. My oldest learned to pedal her bike on her own a couple of day ago. She's starting on her own road to freedom. I hope we can create a free society for all kids some day.

Remember, kids: "Punishable by fine" is capitalist for "Legal if rich enough."
Motorists saying "they shouldn't have bought it if they didn't have anywhere to store it", so close and yet so far from an epiphany. https://road.cc/content/news/cyclist-couple-challenge-council-over-diy-bike-parking-302507
“The road is yours only if you own a car?”: Cyclist couple challenge council after being asked to remove DIY bike parking space from outside home

The cyclists pointed out that if it was a car they could “leave it without ever moving it”, however Bristol City Council is threatening enforcement despite positive reactions from neighbours

The problem is the #cars. It's always been the cars.

"Here’s where old school journalistic norms collide with objective reality. Too many journalists still wrongly believe their goal should be “balance.” It shouldn’t. It should be objectivity. If something is untrue, the press needs to say so, in clear language, even if one partisan group wrongly believes the lie to be true."

"The electric bicycle is a game-changer, much more significant than the overhyped, expensive and insufficiently green e-car: global sales of e-bikes are projected to reach 40 million next year, compared to 9 million for electric vehicles. Globally, most trips are less than 10 kilometres, which e-bikes can cover within half an hour."

Literally every single day, @nbc10boston has a fresh report of someone driving their car into a building. At what point does this become something that we try to fix?

“Those of us in richer countries, especially richer people in rich countries, need to be looking at their own footprint. On a planet with limited resources, excess overconsumption by the rich in particular has to be limited, otherwise it just doesn’t add up,”
