Banning under 16s from social media because "studies show social media causes xyz" is a perfect example of the mistake of individualizing social problems bleeding out from psychiatry to society at large
If social media makes people under 16 depressed have eating disorders or generally lose executive function or other effects like these its probably affecting a lot of people over 16 too.
I challenge you to think of anything we would lose in society by fixing this for everyone without blanket banning or surveillance

Banning social media for under 16's means everyone has to prove their age which means no privacy for anyone.
Its also yet another authoritarian tool in the states belt that will be used by fascists
I hope under 16s get around it by using FLOSS software and moving away from proprietary social media, I hope they discovery anticensorship technology like Simplex Tor and I2P

Children being property of their parents is a historically recent idea although in some cultures they weren't even seen as people but the modern western conception of children being absolutely subserviant to their parents is a product of the nuclear family which is a product of capitalism and patriarchy
