The coverage of Trump's Brazil tariffs has largely ignored: 1) His claimed authority to do so rests in a trade deficit; he hasn't declared a coup accountability emergency 2) Such arbitrary application has ALREADY been declared unlawful www.emptywheel.net/2025/07/10/t...

Trump's Coffee for Coup Accountability Emergency - emptywheel

Donald Trump wants to impose a 50% tax on coffee in an effort to prevent coup accountability for Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil. That may make it far easier for courts to affirm a court ruling that his tariffs are unlawful.

A bunch of Trump appointees, like Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, the multibillionaire, stand to benefit financially if weather forecasts are privatized. People who can’t afford weather forecasts are going to die.

Trump aides tied to firms that may benefit from privatized weather forecasts

Downsizing at the National Weather Service appears to be part of an effort by Republicans to privatize such agencies. In some cases, companies poised to step into the void have ties to those tapped by President Donald Trump to run agencies that collect weather data and publish forecasts. The firm Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick ran has an interest in a government contractor that's a satellite company. The Commerce Department says Lutnick has complied with his ethics agreement. Other officials served as lobbyists and consultants for private weather and space companies. Deadly flooding in Texas has drawn a spotlight to staff reductions at the National Weather Service, which provides the public with free weather data.

It should be obvious that no public official should offer investments (speculation money), publish (propaganda), take rent (at above-market rates), or sell collectibles (at “cachet” markup). It invites bribery, or extortion.

What a terrific graph!

Not just that solar is now producing more power in California than from burning fossil fuels, but that the amount of power they are getting from methane is steadily decreasing unlike in so many other states.

Why does this success story get so little attention?

The Justice Department said earlier this week that Jeffrey Epstein did not maintain a client list. Here's Mother Jones' story from 2020 on what happened when journalist Leland Nally called every number in the disgraced financier's little black book, which has been circulating since 2009, when a former butler tried to sell it to lawyers representing Epstein's victims.

I called everyone in Jeffrey Epstein's little black book.

What I learned about rich people, conspiracy, Ghislaine, stand-up comedy, and evil from 2,000 phone calls.

Mother Jones
REPORTER: Yesterday you said you were not sure who ordered the munitions ordered to Ukraine. Have you figured it out?

TRUMP: I haven't though about it

REPORTER: What does it say that such a decision could be made without you knowing?

TRUMP: I would know. If a decision was made I will know.

Dem Sens. Cory Booker and Alex Padilla introduced a bill that would require immigration enforcement officers to display “clearly legible identification.” It would also prohibit officers from wearing “non-medical face coverings.”

Padilla said: “We’ve all seen the videos: masked ICE agents in plainclothes and unmarked vans, grabbing people off the street. No more hiding.”

A New White House Meltdown and More Bad News For Trump

I cut through the lies, so you don’t have to

The Dworkin Report
I’ll give $1 million to the first White House reporter who asks trump about being a child rapist/epstein, doesn’t flinch when he rages, and keeps pushing like a real journalist.

Stop smiling at this fuck. Get some fucking teeth. Do your fucking job.

Million bucks. Let’s go.
I hoped never to see concentration camps like the ones I grew up in appear again in this country. Reading this breaks my heart.
