Lord, they’re making me do it. They’re making me talk about Jeffrey Epstein. Why? Because they are so damn set on trying to cover up whatever this all is. I explain the sordid mess in today’s piece, link in the replies.

Kinda nuts for a government agency to claim no one on a work permit such as a H1-B visa has been hired into a new job year.

Next NASA will issue a press release about the cow that jumped over the moon.

Good AP reporting:

It was about 1 a.m. on the Fourth of July when the facilities manager at a central Texas summer camp saw water from the Guadalupe River steadily rising amid a deluge of rain.

Aroldo Barrera notified his boss, who had been monitoring reports of the storms approaching Presbyterian Mo-Ranch Assembly.

Despite an absence of warning by local authorities, camp officials acted quickly on their own, relocating about 70 children and adults staying overnight in a building near the river.

The decision to leave added to the mounting accounts of how camps and residents in the area say they were left to make their own decisions in the absence of warnings or notifications from the county.

Mo-Ranch suffered no loss of life.

By about 7 a.m. Friday, camp staff began contacting children’s parents, telling them their kids were safe.

How one Texas summer camp successfully evacuated from the floods

One local summer camp in the path of the disastrous flooding in central Texas was able to avoid any loss of life by closely monitoring weather reports. Staff with the Presbyterian Mo-Ranch Assembly in Texas Hill Country spent Thursday night and early Friday monitoring the Guadalupe River levels and safely evacuated all the children staying overnight there. A spokesperson is crediting proactive decisions by camp officials for saving the children's lives, despite the lack of warning from local officials. At least 79 people have been found dead since the flooding started and rescuers are still searching for girls missing from at least one other summer camp.

we've shifted from "90 deals in 90 days" to "tailor-made trade plans for each and every country on this planet"

The bill would have established a state council to implement an emergency response plan, help “the use of outdoor warning sirens,” and run a first responder grant program.

CBS News: #Hungary’s Viktor Orbán seized control of universities rewrote the #Constitution and neutered the courts. Is that what you're advocating for in the US?

#JDVance: I think Orbán made smart decisions that we could learn from in the US. (May 2024)

Leavitt: "The alerts imminently were sent out before the flood when people were sleeping because the flood hit in the very early hours of the morning. People were sleeping in the middle of the night when this flood came. This was an act of God, it is not the administration's fault that the flood hit when it did."

In 1941-42, the US rounded up 110,000 Japanese Americans, many of them successful farmers and merchants, and shipped them to hastily-built concentration camps. White folks offered to buy their real property for pennies on the dollar while they scrambled to get their affairs in order before reporting to relocation centers. Many had their homes/land/businesses/community centers stolen outright.

This is in the process of happening again, because this is who we are. 100%.

“The fundamental dilemma [of media like NYT]: journalism is, by its nature, supposed to be on the side of accuracy, against lies & liars, but the GOP is lies & liars top to bottom. And for reasons of power & access, journalism can not say so.” https://bsky.app/profile/volts.wtf/post/3lt625gyxh224
David Roberts (@volts.wtf)

It's very obvious that the NYT has put people in editorial positions who view it as part of their job to upset the left. This is, in the bizarro, insular world of US elites, seen as a way to restore balance & regain the trust of the right. Putting aside the merits of the larger effort ...

"Thoughts and prayers" does sound a lot nicer than "I didn't do anything before to prevent this foreseeable disaster and I'm not going to do anything now."
