For everyone ready to migrate, here’s a list to check which instances federate with Meta and which ones don’t (yet).

But it could be good to ask your admins first to let them know people want them to join the #fedipact (just a thought)

funny how we have such access to storage – you can get a 2 terabyte micro sd to lose in the bottom of your purse – but everything is in ‘the cloud’ instead…

and i can get amazing quality headphones for every occasion – something teen me who was constantly busting their shitty headphones would have been totally amazed about – but now most things require bluetooth headphones that don’t sound as good.

old enby yells at cloud (and absence of headphone jacks)

2024 mar 25: "'Community' Has Become a Dirty Words at IBM's Red Hat (Like 'Commie')"

i personally think community and corporation are closer to mutually exclusive, but this is a great example of how full of shit tr is.

> A decade ago and even months before IBM took over "community" was mentioned a handful of times in the front page.

> Now?

@mjg59 i find it ironic and amusing that openbsd rc.d was created by a gnome developer. some of them can create simple things when the spec demands.

i think its the perfect example of a free software init system- modern, reduces boilerplate nonsense, simple and ABOVE ALL optional. compliance is never required, by design. it offers convenience, but only if you want it.

im not against complex init systems existing, only crusades to make them the rule. capitalism is the most likely driver there.

theres actually a pretty fine line between lawyer and hacker- lawrence lessig is one of my favourite people in the world. another one of my favourite people is a canadian paralegal.

the only way the comparison is really an accusation is when you dont like someones style of lawyering- and this is often at least as full of biases and prejudices as it is of valid critiques.

which isnt to say i like lawyers as much as it is to say that there are exceptions that prove the rule.

@mjg59 is an actual scientist who approaches every technical issue like a lawyer would.

his takes on human rights issues are GOOD and the main reason i dont go around waving my arms yelling "matthew garrett is satan!" is because he 1. surrounds himself with people who have better takes on technology and 2. is honest in debates- this is so important.

i often cant stand the way he thinks about tech but i am completely certain that in the grand scheme of things he serves a better purpose than tr.

A picture says more than a thousand words.

A regular Israeli citizen may not be out for #genocide of #palestinians, but they sure are making an effort to look the other way.

That’s the story of most tyrants rising to power in modern days. The willingness of people to look away is key to enabling them.

Because there are so many more cis people than trans people, most of the time when someone "clocks" a person as trans, that person will actually be cis - most positives will be false positives. We're now seeing the grim outcomes of this basic math in Utah: https://www.assignedmedia.org/breaking-news/ut-cisgender-athlete-police-protection-threats
