Most free apps come with one of two catches.
Ads — your attention sold to advertisers.
Or a paywall — your access sold back to you in pieces.
TrailQuest has neither.
Here's why I built it that way. 🧵
TrailQuest only succeeds when you walk.
Your steps are the engine — not your eyeballs.

TrailQuest is free. Every trail, every feature, every
health metric — free. Forever.
I make money one way: Trail Coins.
You earn them by walking.
If you want to move faster than your steps allow,
you can buy more.
IAP sells time, not access.

Paywall apps have a different problem.
The product's incentive is to make the free experience just frustrating enough to push you over the line.
The friction is the point.
I didn't want either. So I built neither.
3/5
Ad-funded apps need time spent in the app.
More screens, more sessions, more notifications.
The metric is engagement —
which sounds healthy, but usually means the opposite.
A walking app with ads doesn't need you to walk.
It needs you to scroll.

🛡️ Why do people quit fitness apps?
Not because they stopped caring. Because they lost a streak, and it felt unfair.
We built Streak Shield to fix that — using behavioral science, not a cheat code.
