Graphic Alchemist exploring symmetry, pattern and the archetypal form of the mandala.

Inner Demon - 2018

This is a special piece to me as it came out of the sub-conscious, as much of my work does, and represents facing my inner demons and finding the courage to change. It was done after a trip home to Australia in 2018 and was my first attempt in 20 years or so after a rough freestyle session in Melbourne with an old friend. I returned home hungry to paint again and I had always wanted to do larger scale symmetrical designs and in particular, abstract faces on walls instead of letterforms.

Some old vector patterns that date back to around 2010 (?) in the case of the first three images. The last one is from 2024. When I first started to learn vector drawing in the early 2000's I loved playing with shape and form by redrawing my old chemically etched metal plates and making patterns with them.

Zak the Destroyer of Illusion - 2021

Today my son turns 14. I did this for him on his 10th Birthday.

In a world that is full of lies and ignorance, perpetuated by cowards he is the most fearless and inspiring person that I know. He makes the world a better place and I will always stand with him as he continues to grow into the strong and brave man that I know he is.

Love,

Dad.

Inner Self Portraits - 1991/93

I found these sitting in an old folio not long ago. I haven't shown them anywhere for many years. They're a step back in time to my early 20's (1990's) and a very exploratory and experimental era. Apart from copious amounts of various 'substances' my artistic influences back then came through Dali, Escher, Giger and a fistful of New York and Melbourne stylewriters - (graffiti artists). I consider both of them to be 'inner self portraits' in many ways.

I'm currently in the process of creating an archive of my older mandalic drawings on Pixelfed. These are all vector drawings done using Adobe Illustrator CS5 and in some cases printed and hand coloured.

They date back to 2017/18 and can be found here >

I use Affinity Designer for vector artwork these days and am meaning to give Inkscape a try in the near future. Over the past couple of years I've also started using Clip Studio Paint and Sketchbook Pro which allow for a more natural drawing feel and flow, producing a more organic and innate style.

I very recently started to spend time using Krita. I only wish I had come across it years ago. It's an amazing drawing and painting program so expect to see more of my artwork produced with this in the future.

As uncertain as I am about sharing my art it is certainly one of the greatest acts of resistance and vulnerability that we can participate in.

So here I am again.

I'm not sure who the following quote is by but I've had it saved for years. I feel like it's from Kurt Vonnegut or Allan Moore..?

"Art will outlive the platforms we currently consume and ingest it on. Don’t compromise your work to fit a mold that may be redundant tomorrow. Make something you feel and believe in, something you’re scared to show people. The world needs that kind of honesty."

Hi.

I'm an old stylewriter (graffiti writer/artist) and although I did some time in the formal art school environment I learned far more painting walls and trains at night in the 1980's and 90's in Melbourne, Australia, where I'm originally from.

These days I'm on an inward journey in this life and as an artist use both traditional and digital tools to explore symmetry, pattern and the archetypal form of the mandala.

My work aims to inspire a sense of wonder and a calming and transformative inward journey of quiet contentment through the meditative practice of mandala creation and contemplation.

Your support is greatly appreciated as I work towards producing my first art/colouring book.
