What interests me about IBM and the Reich isn't just corporations = evil.

I would consider that an axiom that leads nowhere particularly useful anymore.

every time someone tells me about using llms for codegen, all i can think about is that old adage

"debugging software is twice as hard as writing it, so if you write to the best of your ability, you're not qualified to debug it"

sure enough i know several "don't call me a programmer" friends who find it easier to get starter projects off the ground, and these tools have helped a whole bunch

but they're the first to admit "if it doesn't work i don't know how to begin fixing it"

Obligatory #psychology post about motivation for new years resolutions, some stuff I've learned both as a psych researcher and this year as a person trying to stay committed to very complex rehab!

- when we say set attainable goals WE MEAN IT! Cut the goal in half. Ambition is the mind-killer. Attainable is the recursive motivation feeder.
- mindful tracking means make it easy for yourself to see your effort, not fixate on outcomes
- we overestimate the cost of lapse, remind yourself of this
