PEOPLE: Ok so no eggs for breakfast
CC: No, eggs are ok
P: But eggs are chicken
CC: Not until they hatch
P: So the thing isn't the thing until it's born?
CC: Correct—um, no, wait.
If you're @-ing someone on here, it's really important to make sure you've chosen the right person.
Account addresses on Mastodon and the Fediverse always have two parts, the username and the server. Both these parts have to be correct for it to reach the right account.
This is similar to email addresses: you can't just put the first part, you need to include the server at the end too.
To see someone's full account address, look at their profile page. More info at https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-basic-tips/#WhatsMyAccountsAddress
Let's all take a moment to appreciate that Mastodon, Twitter's current heir apparent, is completely devoid of all the web3, tokenized, blockchain/nft bullshit that crypto cultists have been feverishly mansplaining will power the internet going forward. None of it is necessary to build a robust, decentralized infrastructure. It was all a bunch of lies and self-deceit to lure suckers into the shitcoin casinos. Let 2023 be the year that crypto dies with a whimper.
Also, if you are nearby, visit I'm Donut? in #Nakameguro #Tokyo #Japan Their doughnuts are spectacular. We really like the lemon and the glazed. Be prepared to queue, although we found it moves quite quickly, and bring cash if you can't use PayPay
Evening drink (and lemon macaron and chocolate) after a half day of work in the executive lounge at #HotelGajoen in #Meguro #Tokyo #Japan while @tarcyg is out shopping.
Highly recommend this hotel if you are coming to Tokyo. They have been incredibly accommodating when we had to rearrange our flights home due to a migraine. The rooms and location are great and the staff are just amazing.
In 1925, Dr. Cecilia Payne completed her PhD thesis, described as “the most brilliant ever written in astronomy.” At a time when few #women entered academia, Payne discovered what the universe is made of. Her work began a revolution in astrophysics.
Dr. Payne-Gaposchkin became the 1st female professor & 1st female department chair at Harvard. Given most of us remember names like Darwin & Newton, we should also celebrate Payne. #science #space
