This is excellent news. Workplace surveillance is rolling out in a big way under the guise of "efficiency" and "improving productivity" but is used to intimidate and harass workers.

U.S. labor board official seeks crackdown on high-tech worker surveillance

The U.S. National Labor Relations Board's top lawyer said on Monday that she will seek to limit employers' use of "intrusive" electronic monitoring using tools such as GPS and webcams because of its potential to discourage workers from unionizing.

Note: DMs on here are better classified as ‘visible to those mentioned’, and act like normal posts in many more ways than the bird site. So if you tag someone in the text of a DM, it’ll go to them too! It’ll end in terrible disaster and likely already has. There are similarities though, such as that it’ll also be visible to the admins of your instance and all instances mentioned, should they go looking for it — just like Twitter’s are!
@susser This looks like quite a good way of bringing communities together without having an instance, and also in a way that just fits into your feed rather than requiring going searching for a hashtag: https://social.tchncs.de/@perspektivbrocken/109263788975150027

How do #groups work and how can we use them efficiently? @[email protected] and @[email protected] are groups that I created to discuss sociology and academic working conditions. In general, groups function like bots that boost every post containing their handle. If you follow the group-account, you will see the posts in your timeline. In order to keep the TL as relevant as possible, I have a couple of small suggestions. #relevancy 1/3

[New 📝] Focus so far on the EU’s proposed Platform Work Directive has mostly been on employees misclassified as self-employed, yet the draft contains powerful, broadly well-drafted protections on #algorithmicmanagement — new digital labour rights for individuals & collectives!

These will be be fought hard against by big platforms.

In our new pre-print, @RDBinns, Six Silberman + I analyse and propose specific tweaks to safeguard digital #workersrights.

I rarely talk about how tough this job can be, since I feel responsibility to only associate positive things with the project. But it is a lot of responsibilities, and a lot of stress, for what can sometimes feel like inadequate pay.
The past few days have extracted a heavy toll from me. While it's nice to see your work finally taken seriously in the mainstream, the 12-14 hour workdays I've had to pull to handle everything is anything but...
