Most disasters are only remembered for their human toll and the suffering imposed. The ones where people did the right thing are often forgotten. Here is one of the good ones - people worked together, decisively, and were able to save everyone from serious injury.

Mastodon running slow again today which means mastodon is growing again. It's okay, ride the wave.

Sea smoke on Lake Superior forms when extremely cold air blows over relatively warm water.

Due to the large volume of water in Lake Superior and 82,414 km2 / 31,812 mile2 of surface area (it would take two Denmarks to fill it), it remains warm for most of the winter. Sea Smoke conditions are common from December through February.

Who likes #thundersnow? There's a major lake effect #snow event taking place off of the Great Lakes right now, with hundreds of #lightning events detected by the North American Lightning Detection Network.
Is there a weather Mastodon? I am obsessed with weather and will miss the immediacy of being able to check stuff on Twitter. What are you guys suggest? By the way, the two other channels on cable are truly a joke. One of them was founded by being capital and the other one is owned by Byron Allen and they have absolutely no interest in ever knowledge in climate change. it’s weird. #Weather #Storm #Thunderstorm #Noreaster #hurricane #wildfire #flood #mudslide

I don't know if Justin Wolfers is on Mastodon. Enjoyed this chuckle too much to leave it at the bird app.

A few recommendations for life on Mastodon:

1) Follow anyone you think looks potentially interesting; you can always unfollow later, and they may lead you to new people via boosted posts.

2) Boost posts you think are worthy, so others can discover new content.

3) Don't obsess on replicating your Twitter follows on Mastodon; let it be its own experience, and grow it organically. Obvs follow anyone you miss from Twitter, but this isn't a 1:1 replacement; have fun, follow your instincts.

The one thing I miss the most on mastodon VS Twitter is the auto translate for foreign language posts. It was very cool to be able to follow along with conversations all over the world.
Where are the #Timberwolves folks on the elephant app? I need my daily fill of Anthony Edwards anecdotes.
