We have optimized the rendering loop. On the client side it went down a whopping 97%, while the serverside agents experience 79% faster processing. We are still exploring other avenues of optimization, like tweaking our networking. #rpg #gamedev #pixelart #godot #gaming #mana #performance
The base shape for Tulimshar is done and pushed! It is the biggest city in Tonori, the desert continent, and you will be asked to investigate the cause of the raging sandstorm. We have also begun to flesh out a major character in Tulimshar, namely its ruler, The Red Queen. #rpg #gamedev #pixelart #godot #gaming #mana

We're going to start taking from our Discord/IRC conversations and put together a development diary of things we are working on. Here are some thoughts that Reid shared recently about the design of the Tulimshar Beach, an important outdoor location near our starting zone:

The Mana of a Man

I’ve been making games since I was a kid - it’s been over 20 years since I first picked up GameMaker 6.1, and found my calling in life. In that time, I’ve fought and struggled, had some small successes and big failures. I’ve crawled through hell on my belly and came out the other end different, though not necessarily in a bad way. I have a better understanding of myself, but one thing I always believed is that I wanted to make my own games, maybe even run my own studio. For the last two months, I’ve been contributing to a game that has made me reconsider this entirely. Let me tell you about my experiences with The Mana World.

We have enjoyed the summer break and work continues. The Tulimshar rework is progressing, as you can see in this before/after. The before is from 2009. #rpg #gamedev #pixelart #godot #gaming #mana

Working on flora and monsters for the Tonori desert. Behold: A cactus that jiggles when hit. Its drops will include the iconic cactus potion you might know from The Mana World. #rpg #gamedev #pixelart #godot #gaming #mana
Before and after of the iconic sandstorm map, located directly outside of Tulimshar, desert capital of Tonori. Its rework is now mostly done, redrawing the tiles alone took *days* of work. #rpg #gamedev #pixelart #godot #gaming #mana
Adding a little variation can make a big difference. Before and after of the cliffs south of Tulimshar, situated in the desert continent of Tonori. The original is quite old, unfortunately we do not have an exact age to share, but we suspect it is from before 2010. #rpg #gamedev #pixelart #godot #gaming #mana
