PhD in #LatAm studies. Wrote my way through Cuban-America to develop a methodology for #culturalmemory. Form the #ImaginaryAgency with Moniek Driesse.
Working with a team in Chapecó, Brasil, Eindhoven and Amsterdam, we will not only use the history of soy production and consumption, but I will specifically be working on developing interdisciplinary theory, methodology and practice to approach large questions such as these.
Thanks for asking. Although my PhD dissertation is about Cuban-America, and I do care about my Cuban-American interviewees, the main point is not about Cuba-America, “but rather to assess and elaborate the theoretical foundation on which methodological approaches towards knowledge production about the relationship between past present and future can be built.” The work was always on #culturalmemory, #memorystudies, #interdisciplinarymethodology.

Some news: in the new year, I will begin working at @Athenainst. One of the projects that I will be working on is this one: https://vu.nl/en/about-vu/more-about/soy-stories

“But Sjamme,” you ask, “How come you have moved from doing a PhD on Cuban-Americans in Miami, a postdoc on Chilean-Swedes in Gothenburg, to now working on #soy production in #Brazil and consumption in the #Netherlands?”

Hello 👋, this is my #introduction. I am a postdoc in media history at Lund University, Sweden. I'm currently working on a project about Cold War psychological defence and media preparedness in DK and SE.

My recent research has focused on other aspects of #coldwar #nuclearculture, particularly #civildefence in DK and the UK.

Future research adventures includes a digital history project on #shelters in Aarhus, DK.

After not having lived there since I was eight years old, my little family and I are moving to the Netherlands in the new year.

The problem is: I am as out of date as can be. Any tips on podcasts on current Dutch affairs, music, history?

The Guardian: "The Netherlands is expected to formally apologise for its role in 250 years of slavery (...) The prime minister, Mark Rutte, will deliver a public message on 19 December (...) It is widely anticipated that this will be an apology for the 250 years in which the Dutch funded an economic and cultural “Golden Age” by exploiting more than 600,000 people from Africa and Asia – about 5% of the 12 million enslaved by Europeans from the 17th to the 19th century."

If you are interested in doing research in #Sweden, on a topic related to Swedish #folkculture ('Swedish' & 'folk culture' understood in the broadest of senses), I highly recommend applying for a #Bernadotte fellowship.

I spent my time doing #oralhistory interviews with Chilean migrants, writing applications, articles & participating in conferences.

Feel free to get in touch if you want to know more about my experiences, tips on how to apply, etc. #histodons #folklore

Hi. It would help me a lot if I could get a HEAP of responses to this poll. The goal is to get a decent enough sample so results are predictive of the wider user-base right now. I dislike asking for boosts but this is SCIENCE... or something. (Thanks.)

How do you use Mastodon MOST of the time?

On a phone, or other touch screen device?

OR

On a device with a keyboard like a laptop or desktop computer?

(If it's half and half choose the middle option.)
