Some news: in the new year, I will begin working at @Athenainst. One of the projects that I will be working on is this one: https://vu.nl/en/about-vu/more-about/soy-stories

“But Sjamme,” you ask, “How come you have moved from doing a PhD on Cuban-Americans in Miami, a postdoc on Chilean-Swedes in Gothenburg, to now working on #soy production in #Brazil and consumption in the #Netherlands?”

SOY STORIES - More about - Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

SOY STORIES investigates the histories of soy cultivation and intensive animal farming for an inclusive, sustainable future.

Thanks for asking. Although my PhD dissertation is about Cuban-America, and I do care about my Cuban-American interviewees, the main point is not about Cuba-America, “but rather to assess and elaborate the theoretical foundation on which methodological approaches towards knowledge production about the relationship between past present and future can be built.” The work was always on #culturalmemory, #memorystudies, #interdisciplinarymethodology.
Working with a team in Chapecó, Brasil, Eindhoven and Amsterdam, we will not only use the history of soy production and consumption, but I will specifically be working on developing interdisciplinary theory, methodology and practice to approach large questions such as these.
