Every once in a while I feel like someone who has been playing the guitar for 14 years. 🌚
I have not performed since catching covid in February, and I’m scared to in any enclosed space. Wondering if anyone else feels the same and how you work around it….

This sure feels like a proper commitment now. I promise I'll do everything to keep this thing alive and kicking (and snaring, and tomming, but hopefully not crashing). Let's go!

I guess I have to get better with #Ableton because I own the full version now. 😬

Musician rituals. Instrument cleaning.

There are times of the year when I realise my instruments deserve more nurture. Nuts and bolts cleaned and oiled. Drum skins replaced. Wood polished.

Instrument nurture is a meditative, mindful state, caring for these precious friends who allow my creative spirit to find voice.

Without care and nurture our instruments sometime lose their voices. At the same time, so do we.

There is such a difference between having people over and making, like, a meal together. The former is great; the latter is what life is about.

This is, for me, what #MastoMusicCollab is about. I don't want us to just be polite and "here" with each other; I also want to *make* something with y'all, I want to really get to know you through that process.

We will most likely never meet irl (not all of us at least), but that doesn't have to stop us from forming a real #community.

What makes us fall in love with the instruments we play? For myself, the feel of drum skin beneath my fingers - the vibrational feedback that creates resonance. I never get tired of the delicate intricacy of a drum I am playing, the warm familiarity of tone and timbre. Every drum is unique, the sound evolving depending on temperature and humidity or the space around us. This is joy.

I remember having this perception, when I first began to learn guitar, that singing and playing at the same time was harder than doing one at a time. One day, as I sat on a blanket at the park, struggling to produce a few clear, basic chords, one of the groundskeepers approached. He told me he had taught his daughter to play guitar. Then he said, "Sing and play at the same time. You'll learn much faster." So I did. That was life-changing advice. #songwriting #guitar
