I won't say that the author is being paranoid here.
However, I would disagree with his point of E2E encryption being "snake-oil" solutions, since its also protecting you against disgruntled employees and other low-level breaches.
But yes, they are completely useless when you are on the US government's radar. Since the very owners of the application can very well ship the application with backdoors.

I would like to see the maintainer's response as well. Perhaps they might give us a workaround or some other clarification (although in my short time, I couldn't find any room for that)
