Probably the best of last night's #perseid #meteors captured on our cameras. There were matches with a brighter absolute magnitude, but this was the prettiest.
We've already detected over 4000 perseids, and three-quarters of them were matched between cameras leading to 450 confirmed matches!

The #Perseids always peak around August 11, 12 and 13, right before a new moon. Under a dark sky with no moon, skywatchers frequently report 90 meteors per hour, or more. Few – if any – #meteors in annual showers hot the ground to become #meteorites. The parent #comet responsible for the Perseid #meteor shower is a rather large comet called 109P/Swift-Tuttle. The comet orbits the sun approximately every 133 years.

Im Sternenpark Rhön findet dieses Jahr die vierte Ausgabe der beliebten Sternenparkwochen statt. Vom 4. bis 20. August kommen Sterne- und Naturfans wieder bei zahlreichen himmlischen Angeboten auf ihre Kosten. Bereits seit der Anerkennung des UNESCO-Biosphärenreservats Rhön als internationaler Sternenpark im Jahr 2014 setzt die Rhön ein Zeichen für den Schutz der Nacht. Im Jahr 2022 zeichnete die International Dark Sky Association (IDA) die Rhön als weltweiten „Sternenpark des Jahres“ aus.
