I mostly patch things here and there on #KDE #Plasma and Applications. When I'm not fiddling with UI programming, you'll find me trying to figure out what babies want 😅

Talk to me about Free Software, Home Automation and Video Games.

Coding is like taking a lump of clay and slowly working it into the thing you want it to become. It is this process, and your intimacy with the medium and the materials you’re shaping, that teaches you about what you’re making – its qualities, tolerances, and limits – even as you make it. You know the least about what you’re making the moment before you actually start making it. That’s when you think you know what you want to make. The process, which is an iterative one, is what leads you towards understanding what you actually want to make, whether you were aware of it or not at the beginning. Design is not merely about solving problems; it’s about discovering what the right problem to solve is and then solving it. Too often we fail not because we didn’t solve a problem well but because we solved the wrong problem.

When you skip the process of creation you trade the thing you could have learned to make for the simulacrum of the thing you thought you wanted to make. Being handed a baked and glazed artefact that approximates what you thought you wanted to make removes the very human element of discovery and learning that’s at the heart of any authentic practice of creation. Where you know everything about the thing you shaped into being from when it was just a lump of clay, you know nothing about the image of the thing you received for your penny from the vending machine.

My first impression of the Jolla Phone appearance models

Warning: this is a lengthy post. I can be quiet and reserved until you ask me to talk about something that I’m passionate about, then I can talk (write) for days. This is one of those wordy occasions. TL;DR - overall 8.5/10 for the size, weight, materials, feel in hand, ergonomics, looks, etc. (May bump it up to a 9 when weight is finalized with a functioning proto, more details below.) Just the external stuff. It’s not perfect, but I like it very much! Preface: a few of you may know me, but m...

Holy Shit, #Valve did a product launch in 2025 and did not mention AI a single fucking time. So refreshing.

This is basically why Valve gets my monies:

Install your own apps, or even another operating system. Who are we to tell you how to use your computer.

Yay! My first ever kernel patch is in :D https://www.phoronix.com/news/Corsair-HX1200i-2025-Linux

Nostalgia of my patch to KDE Plasma back in 2009 which was a one-liner just like this one ;)

Corsair HX1200i 2025 Power Supply Monitoring Now Works Under Linux

For those shopping for a high-end desktop power supply for use under Linux and interested in being able to take advantage of sensor monitoring capabilities, the 2025 edition of the Corsair HX1200i PSU can now enjoy working sensor monitoring under Linux.

So, when are we renaming the Streisand effect to Bloomberg effect? :D
TIL that the speaker of the house in the #USA is not required to be neutral. What the?
i've never seen a single commit diff representing more incalculable brand damage than this. entirely self-inflicted, 25+ years of goodwill like it's a gold ring at a pawn shop. even in their wildest dreams of avarice - as if being one of millions of scummy data middlemen were a remotely lucrative enterprise in 2025 - this trade will never be worth it.
shame on everyone who made and executed this decision.
