@hvangalen this what happens when politicians are in charge of policy/enforcement actions in a very specialized field.
My IBM 5155 will be 40 years old by June this year. Works like a charm. Wonder how many of today's computers will work 40 years from now. Certainly quality has not improved in the previous 40 years...
@vga256 Well said! It's even worse with "lifetime VPN service" or similar service, which obviously carry a running cost, making any lifetime offer at best a very bad deal for the provider or, most likely, a scam.

Folks remembering #AaronSwartz today - remember that he was moving publicly-funded research out from behind a paywall.

Then remember the only reason the case went forward is because federal prosecutors, specifically Carmen Ortiz and Stephen Heymann, wanted to make an example of him.

“Theft is theft, and it doesn’t matter if you use a crowbar or a computer” were Heymann’s words at the time.

Notice how federal prosecutors aren’t bullying Sam Altman for the wholesale theft of content network-wide, to build a machine that spews bullshit and further destroys our ability to determine the truth?

It’s because he’s doing it for private profit, while Aaron worked for the public good.

Never let yourself be tricked into believing the legal system is a justice system.

@dave was it carry on luggage? It's weird because I had one in my carry on about 3 weeks ago and had no issues at all. Hopefully it's just a one-off and not a pattern.

@vga256 that reminds me of my ISP's equipment and I trust none of it. They are bottom of the barell. I've seen thing similar like you mentioned, but never got to the bottom of it. Now I disable everything from it and put my Unifi gear in front of it. Problem solved.
@mynotaurus I guess using you laptop is fine when on battery, but it's not when plugged in to mains. Fantastic. Unenforceable.
@emily I have one of them running in a ZX80 clone with no issues. Also, if you look closely, you'll see that pin spacing is 2.5mm instead of 0.1". Doesn't seem much, you if you use a regular socket you'll see that pin alignment is a bit off.
@marcan absolutely agreed! 100% on point!
