I just noticed that my former colleagues at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies (CAWCS) have managed to host a copy of the Omeka instance I made for the @PortsPastPres project! We lost it after I left my role due to hosting changes, but it's back! https://portspastpresent.cawcs.wales/ #PortsPastPres #Ireland #Wales #Ports #Interreg

Ports, Past and Present is a joint initiative with University College Cork (UCC) and Wexford County Council in Ireland, and in Wales with Aberystwyth University and the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. The project is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Ireland Wales Cooperation programme and is led by UCC.

When installing Windows 3.1 as a retro system, you should never forget to update the file manager to its Y2K-compatible version from 1999. The old, original WINFILE.EXE should not be allowed to touch your files in 2026. 😉

The original url is now an informational website. https://portspastpresent.eu/. The links work now to the stories and it makes my heart glad. I would also point out that this is an absolute case in point about why novice Omeka users should only refer to slugs (e.g. /items/browse/) in their html. Probably obvious to anyone with experience but it made this all work out of the box with zero editing.

I love @hcommons.social! The moderators are great and the longer word limit means I don’t have to chop up my thoughts. If you are connected to the humanities in some way and would like to move to a longstanding instance with good guardrails and lots of space, take a few minutes to fill out the questionnaire!

Given all the news about ICE in the past few weeks, can I kindly remind you all that RELX (owners of Elsevier & LexisNexis) is "mission-critical" to ICE.

ICE pays RELX Group and Thomson Reuters millions of dollars for the personal data it needs to fuel its big data policing program.
