Yes I am aware of the great work that has been done on open source toolchains for this like icestorm but I want to be able to run both toolchains.
Does anyone understand how to resolve this error message from lattice semi icecube2? I am sure the license file is there. I have jumped through a lot of hoops to install this "current" software that needs an OS release from 2010. (RHEL 6)

Hey ham radio operators! The FCC received 2,283 filings in response to AST SpaceMobile asking to keep using amateur radio bands, almost all of them negative: https://www.amsat.org/ans-208-amsat-news-service-weekly-bulletins/

Well done! I have no idea if it'll make any difference at all, but I really appreciate that there are a lot of other people out there who are willing to yell along with me as megaconstellations try to take over... well... everything.

American airports: "Take off your shoes! Is that water bottle empty?! I don't like the look of this nail file, buster!"

Switzerland: "Please feel free to purchase our iconic pocketknives right here inside the terminal."

@deviantollam

If you buy one* do they seal it up securely in a soft plastic supermarket carry bag and make you promise not to open it like they do with Duty-Free booze in Australian airports?

*And, more importantly, what are the prices like at the source?

@deviantollam i once accidentally carried a Swiss army knife through security at Zurich airport. I was taken to one side. Expecting to be given a hard time, I was surprised when they said "Of course you can take a Swiss army knife on a Swiss Air flight! But please remember to pack it properly on your next leg. We would hate for you to lose it".
@bassthang @deviantollam the same happened to me, also in Zurich, ages ago! šŸ˜šŸ‡ØšŸ‡
@deviantollam safely stored in that plastic blister package that's impossible to open without the knife that's inside the packaging?
@mindpersephone hah, that's how they get 'ya!
@deviantollam MacGyver: *sweating intensely*
@xenotrope haha yeah.
@deviantollam Bum bump bahhhhhh. Bum bump bahhh. Bum bump bah dee duh dum bah buh bahhh, bum bump bahhhhhh.... *explosions* *jeep* *sparks* *Dana Elcar* *hang glider intensifies*
@xenotrope I see it and hear it now in my head 😊
@xenotrope (fun fact: for a not insignificant amount of time when I was younger, I thought that actor's name was "Dana Eclair")
@deviantollam It's OK. For a long time I thought it was reasonable to defuse a bomb with a shoelace and some sugar packets. A lot of that show built unreasonable ideas in our minds.
@xenotrope Well, I didn't buy one of the little pocket knives but they gave me this Victorinox pouch... Maybe the rocket car parts and laser-refracting prisms are in there? šŸ˜‰

@deviantollam I bet it has some paperclips, a twist of wire, four buttons, and a pair of tweezers.

That's enough to built a geosynchronous telecommunications satellite.

@xenotrope @deviantollam If you think original Macgyver was ridiculous, watch the new one. It's way more ridiculous. Also there can only be one real Macgyver and that's Richard Dean Anderson. I'm sure Lucas Till is a cool guy, but you know.
@rejzor
The new one is really, hilariously stupid, they once had a mention of #snowden at the end, because it was some kind of inside threat and they said "oh good it was like a Snowden moment" where Snowden was the bad guy. So absolutely us centric stupid stuff. šŸ˜…šŸ˜… #mcguyver
@xenotrope @deviantollam
@deviantollam Yeah sure but at least the American TSA has successfully thwarted over <checks notes> oh, huh, zero terrorists. Carry on!
@deviantollam and then deposit them in the sharps bins at the gates so we can sell them again, tomorrow.

@deviantollam

You also need to understand, that in Swiss airports, compared to airports in the states, there are also way fewer Americans

@deviantollam I wonder if they'd make the same exception for my leatherman XD

(I am NOT going to test this, when I go through an airport I cosplay as Jeff Normalguy, the frequent flyer who loves following rules and queueing and takes all their electronics out of the bag before I'm even at the scanner)

@deviantollam I once got blocked from entering a pub because the bouncer found a pocket knife on me. I made such a theatrical show of exactly how useless it would be as a weapon (starting with awkwardly fumbling it out of my pocket... trying to grip the blade with my thumbnail to open it... all while reminding the gorilla in front of me that this is supposed to be happening in the middle of a fight) that he told me to grow the fuck up and let me in 🤣 I didn't even get to compare the tiny dull blade to a broken beer bottle!

@deviantollam Having switched planes in Zurich a few times, I can assure you there's no danger from these knives.

Think of them as you would a museum exhibit, because you won't have the money to buy one, having already bankrupted yourself buying a coffee and sandwich in the airport before you ever see the knives.

@JimBliss @deviantollam

I see "@cstross boosted" and then beginning a sentence with "Having switched planes" I was expecting something COMPLETELY different.

@JimBliss @deviantollam true, but before you may enter the airport they still take away your previous swiss army knife.
@deviantollam I looked up the European regulations on this stuff a while ago, and the only concrete guidance I was able to find was that pocket knives and the like are okay in hand luggage if they’re not longer than 7 cm or so. I have myself flown intra-European flights a bunch of times with my multitool in my backpack.
@deviantollam Can't do much with a Swiss army knife. By the time you unfold it and the crew stops laughing they already have you tackled and tied up. No disrespect to anyone I was into pocket knives as a child. I had several Swiss Army knives. Not very sharp, hardly used the tools. I found the cheapo simple pocket knives from the hardware store to sharper and more useful.
@deviantollam they must be stored rectally during the flight though
@deviantollam - Oh Boy; Talk about sensors going off.
@deviantollam now this is how it should be, there should be less restrictions on what you can carry
@deviantollam Wait until you see Swiss Army soldiers with assault rifles on the trains.
@deviantollam
In the US its security theater, designed to keep you afraid not secure.

@deviantollam
when I went on vacation to Germany I brought my nitecore ultra bright flashlight. It was one of the ones with the hardened glass breaker.

Got pulled to the side because of it. One of the security people was convinced it was a taser.

After chatting with the suddenly manifested armed security guys we got to the point of them wanting one too.

Its a nice flashlight, metal and damn bright (and no taser)

I was mostly worried about the large battery to be honest.

@deviantollam About 10 years ago I took a domestic flight in New Zealand. The only security I had to go through was a man I didn't have to speak to (I asked him for information) asking me "You don't have anything explosive in this bag, do you?" as he put my rucksack onto an open conveyor belt in the public departure lounge
@deviantollam great to see you this side of the big pond again. Will you join Babak for X33fcon Training in Poland ?
@deviantollam @dropbear In Sydney you're a criminal, in Switzerland you're a customer. 🤷
@deviantollam Oddly, if you make it onto the plane, there's rarely any security in the concourse between the plane and customs/immigration when you land. Lots of emergency exits, and toilets even. šŸ¤”
@deviantollam I got to the plane once some years ago with a large Swiss Army knife after going through security in Geneva airport. Also did it once with a large adjustable spanner I carried usually for my bike but forgot to remove from my rucksack. The guy in security jokingly asked me to volunteer myself if there was a mechanical emergency on the plane.
@deviantollam ah yes one of the Swiss Articles of Faith
@deviantollam Oh, it’s quite safe. ā€œDuty Free items may not be opened until you reach your final destination.ā€
@deviantollam The corkscrew is essential.
@deviantollam tbh that nail file looked deadlier than these swiss army knifes, also you might be carrying booze you didn't buy from the duty-free, so we can't have that...
@deviantollam Atlanta Airport tip: if you want a cool Swiss pocket knife, look in the dirt around the potted plants. People ditch them there when they realize they have them and have to get rid of them ahead of checkpoint.
@kimlockhartga I always thought there was money to be made in selling prepaid postage bags in a vending machine at the security checkpoint.

@deviantollam

Flew through Boston Logan, & they practically had an aneurysm over my plastic bottle containing my earbuds (to keep the cords from tangling).

@deviantollam yep. TSA took out my 3ā€ long adjustable wrench to ā€œmake sure it was within size limitsā€, as if I could hurt someone with that.
@deviantollam And almost nobody in Switzerland knows who is the President.
