Reddit: "My friend is in university and taking a history class. The professor is using ChatGPT to write essays on the history topics and the students need to mark up its essays and point out where ChatGPT is wrong and correct it."

Honestly, this is great! The students learn to check sources, discover that ChatGPT is unreliable, *and* can't use it to generate essay question answers for them, all at the same time!

@JonnyT @Reno @Esowes @atomicpoet @fediversenews @Hey_Beth @MonaApp @ivory My biggest complaint of all the apps including @MonaApp is once I’ve seen a post (whether in timeline or because I’ve drilled down into a thread) - don’t show it to me again!

I spend 30-40% of my time scrolling past the same posts over and over from reblogs or one’s I’ve read in a thread.

Consider unfollowing that person that always leaves you feeling worse about things.

I'll just reiterate: the people against progress, inclusion—against love, growth, and an improvement in people’s lives and happiness generally—aren’t fighting this hard because they are the winners. But they can be very good at torturing everyone. Losers burn the place down on their way out. That has to be stopped.

Big congrats to Spain for successfully passing reforms of their gender recognition laws today 💜

There's nothing fundamental about the #rustlang *language* that makes its community one of the friendliest; that was a deliberate decision early on that has been consistently maintained and cherished. I'm thankful that the same language that chose to provide systems-friendly automatic memory management also chose to provide people-friendly development.

How could I not participate in #SuperbOwlSunday .😉

A tiny #PygmyOwl for your enjoyment. These little guys are about the size of a sparrow and are #diurnal #owls rather than #nocturnal.

Many years of protocol-related coding teach me that it is a common fallacy to desire designing

decode/encode
decrypt/encrypt
read/write

APIs symmetrically.

Simple example: When you have type length value structures, you know the length prior to decoding value but you may not know the length prior to encoding value.

Have the courage to break out of this desire for symmetry. Beautiful and efficient API designs may emerge.

Word of the day, a yiddish slang word:

farpotshket

broken, because someone tried to fix it

This word doesn't just describe something that is broken, but something that is broken specifically because someone else tried to fix it, making it worse. It is used most commonly today to describe software engineering projects.
