Hi! #introduction - I'm a PhD candidate studying the #evolution of #plumage colouration in #parrots

I love all things #ecology #sensoryecology #evolution #birds #ornithology #parrots enjoy seeing your #stats #rstats & #rtistry

Moved over to fediscience from mastodon.social thanks to useful guide by @djnavarro

For reading all that, here's a beautiful Amazon parrot

@vchano Typically in the geologic time scale, major transition events are used to denote the boundaries between intervals, rather than the intervals themselves. There is no "Cretaceous/Paleogene Extinction Event"-ocene.

Personally I find it obnoxious to change the rules of how we designate geologic intervals, but perhaps including "Anthropocene" in your article title increases the maximum impact factor of the journals where your paper could land....

Folks interested in social equity who work in data science will want to take note: the publishers of RStudio have reached a formal business agreement with Palantir, the espionage and cyberweapons company. The owner of Palantir, Peter Thiel, has said that democracy and freedom are incompatible with each other, and that poor people's lives are inherently worth less than those of rich people. Consider finding an alternative to RStudio as a data analysis IDE.

Best Data Visualization Projects of 2022

Every year, I pick my favorite data visualization projects, which tend to cover a wide range of purposes but are typically for presentation. Here are my favorites for 2022.

@mattfossen I honestly think it's better this way. 🤣 Merry Christmas!!!
@mattfossen I am veerrrrrry curious to know if this is a response to the absolute banger I just tooted.
If you've heard of the Donner Party, I invite you to get into the Christmas spirit by checking out this screenshot:

A teenager in the Bronx was accused of stealing a backpack. The police arrested him.

Couldn't make bail. Would spend 2 years on Riker's island awaiting a trial.

-only for the charges to be dropped. Many were appalled, they set it up for him to go to community college. That's where I met him once- my electronics club. Made an LED Christmas tree-he seemed... so so so sad.

He took his own life later that year.

Anyways. Uh, Sam Bankman-Fried to be released on $250 million bail. #cw
