@mckensie It'd need to get remixed to sound really good, sadly going from stereo>7.1.4>binaural does have it's limits, it works well for long ambience or music recordings, but that's in part because those play in the background of a final audio drama mix which itself has been properly spatialized. JFW is a murderer I don't think had enough stereo imaging to make it spread out when upmixing very well. Remixed properly though from the ground? Oh yeah that drama would be so sick to hear in true binaural. But that would be an insane amount of work assuming it was even possible.
@Bri Oh yeah whatever plugins I release which are much more complicated than the music3d situation, there will be audio demos for. They probably have a very high learning curve in some cases but they get easier to use after that. I have over 230kb of c++ code in these plugins so far haha.
@mckensie Yeah this particular effects chain is certainly only intended for music, things get a bit interesting if you decide to run audio drama through it haha. If you turn on one of the virtual spaces and turn off the more simple algorithmic "Verb" effect in the chain, it does sound a little cool - like you're listening to the drama in a theoter.
@x0 @Bri I'll do it in NVGT at some point, yeah it'd be cool if steam audio did that bit for us but I know how to do it. Actually on the surface it's pretty simple, just feed each channel of your audio into a different hrtf effect each placed on a different side of the listener and mix them back together, there you go, done. Steamaudio does have something close to it, I also plan to wrap it, they have a VIrtualDownmix effect. It's similar to DearVRMonitor, it takes 7.1 audio for example and downmixes it into 8 binaural speakers. They don't have a builtin 7.1.4 configuration though, but I think at least on the downmix you can make one.
@Bri I imagine you'll have even more reason to blame me if I end up releasing my coordinater plugin that makes many instances work together while routing versions of the audio for environmental effects that can pan E. if the listener is listening through a door's keyhole they could hear the room they're listening into off to one side, you literally define the map like min/max coordinates using effects parameters, one just lets you control what area index you're editing.
Well, we've still got a lot of work to do but at least this is still a big step, a Redspot client update was just released which deals heavily in improving the game's administration situation, it links the game to the Sam Tupy Productions account system. This now handles bans, warnings that record their acknowledgement, disabling specific game features if needed, name allocations and more. This also comes with a rules update. We now have the basic protection of email verification required to play. The update can be downloaded at https://samtupy.com/games/redspot.zip
@mcourcel @FreakyFwoof @vick21 @jcast432 I can send you and anyone else who wants one a dropbox link via direct message, not sure if my db links would get messed up by mastodon clients all hitting the link at once if it were public
@mckensie You can actually do that with this effects chain using Teamtalk's panning controls if you have Reaper haha
@mcourcel @FreakyFwoof @vick21 @jcast432 When I downloaded these, I downloaded the complete plugins bundle from that page which contained DearVRMonitor, it also might be in the DearVRMix package. I don't have much time at the second but I'll look in to that so I can make the instructions more clear in the future. Sorry about that!
