Trying very hard to avoid computers, and failing miserably.

A 30-something British-born coconut Indian living in Zürich, Switzerland. I speak English, and enough Hochdeutsch to order a pizza.

Occasional, inadvertent arsehole. If observed, please call me out.

Fascists, racists, Zionists, TERFs, homophobes, and other bigots can fuck right off.

PM me for my Signal handle.

At home, I use [Blocky](https://0xerr0r.github.io/blocky/) to proxy [DNS4EU](https://www.joindns4.eu/), with the addition of [Steven Black’s hosts file](https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts) to deny known adware and malware domains. I’m very tempted to turn this into a public service for people who don’t know how to do this themselves. Anyone interested?

@jasongorman Seems fair!

@jasongorman No idea. Here in Switzerland we have some custom QR code-based stuff for invoicing, which obviously doesn't help anyone outside the country. I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar.

You might have to go down the invoice route, but I am also surprised they can't figure it out, given that they probably also pay for Google Suite or Microsoft 365 or some such nonsense by credit card.

@schratze “In shocking news, hospitals in London are full to the brim as 30% of the population have lost fingers, hands, arms, legs, and in one confusing incident, a spleen.”

@jasongorman Last time I tried to pay with a credit card in Albert Heijn, the biggest supermarket chain there, they looked at my Visa and said “EuroPay or cash”.

So I can believe it.

@algernon the past few years I have been avoiding deleting my HN account for a very weird reason: in 2010 I posted in a thread about the Hudson project being taken over by Oracle and suggested they rename it to "Jenkins": https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1954946 and somehow they thought it was a good idea, and they took my suggestion

when I started my job at a CI company 6 years later, Jenkins was our main competitor that some of our customers would talk about switching to in order to save costs; everyone was worried about Jenkins

I decided that this would be my Terrible Secret that I would hide for years, only to reveal on my very last day at the job--well, that last day was Friday, so I shared that link in chat and blew a good number of minds

but now it's finally served its purpose, so I can finally delete my account!

I vote for calling it "Jenkins": http://twitter.com/atmos/status/16880282279 &#6... | Hacker News

@brooke Phew!
@Profpatsch @RosaCtrl Yeah, it’s actually good enough for running unit tests.
@Profpatsch @RosaCtrl If you have to structure the codebase of a high-level almost-fourth-generation language for reasonable compile times, the promise has been broken.
