The most popular platform for SARS-CoV-2 genome data, GISAID, is in crisis. I talked to scientists from eight countries about the future of pathogen-genome sharing. Here are a few highlights of my latest story for @Nature https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-01517-9 (1/6)
GISAID in crisis: can the controversial COVID genome database survive?

The most popular repository for sharing SARS-CoV-2 sequence data has come under increasing scrutiny. Scientists and funders around the world must now consider what lies ahead for the open sharing of genome data.

Good to be back at the #ABPHM23 . Nerds from Amsterdam-UMC and Amsterdam GGD are on the ground. Great presentations and stimulating discussions all day long!
Really happy to be back at ABPHM this year! Looks like a great program!
Great Q from @BillHanage on "convos about metadata" from @Dr_Patiyan's talk on bioinformatics coordination in Australia.
Patiyan says this is critical & more than "trust us", but clarifying "here's what we can do if we have it, here's what we can't do if we don't". #ABPHM23
If you're at #ABPHM23 and interested in making awesome pan-genome graphs, be sure to stop by & chat to @mrcmolari from @richardneher's lab about PanGraph during the showcase! 📊📉🦠⭕

I’m probably always going to wear a kf94 or kn95 when flying. I see no compelling evidence showing that getting sick on a business trip or vacation is better than wearing a mask for a couple hours.
@alexcc It also seems, by design, not applicable for a lot of scientific questions. My first interaction with it was when a colleague asked chatGTPa specific bioinformatics question. The IA then made up an answer based on the most common information available, which was wrong in the specific case we were discussing. In my opinion it's not only unethical, but also dangerous to rely on these tools for science.
