Linux Foundation Tries To Play Peacemaker In Ongoing WordPress Scuffle - Slashdot

The Register's Thomas Claburn reports: The Linux Foundation on Friday introduced a new method to distribute WordPress updates and plugins that's not controlled by any one party, in a bid to "stabilize the WordPress ecosystem" after months of infighting. Internet Archive is looking for engineering managers with a rare set of experiences, and we could use your help.

Do you know someone with extensive experience using PHP as a systems language? Someone who has gardened a petabyte-scale system under high load? Is this person a player/coach engineering manager who enjoys helping other people succeed?

If you do know someone like this, or someone close, I would love to talk to them.

Hi Mastodon!
IEEE Spectrum is an award-winning technology magazine, dedicated to bringing you the best technology news and analysis.

The final issue of #linuxformat has been released. After 25 years the magazine is going out with a bang. Interviewing the old staff members, and looking back at old Linux distros (Corel Linux, I used that a long time ago. I've been with LXF since 2011 (writing the community page) and freelancing with them since 2013. The Raspberry Pi User section started with the Pi 2, and it carried on til the very end.

@biglesp yeah, just had an email out of the blue.

Better hit the archives whilst there's still time :(

@heeed @biglesp They've added some early issues to the archive. Might be adding even more soon.

@biglesp
Aww no way. I was not a subscriber but some of the magazines that I have bought had some pretty memorable articles and I had a lot of fun learning and applying the things I've learned from them.

Sad to see them go tbh

@Shredd_Tone thanks for reading :) it's a shame that the magazine has ended, but we had a good run.

@biglesp
Oh yeah, definitely. It meant GNU/Linux was reaching out to those people in the real world, the news stands, the local grocery stores, various communities up and down the country etc.

It was great to see it's impact on people too.

As the saying goes: 'Don't be sad it's over, be glad that it happened'

@biglesp also used Corel Linux for a bit! As that was the first installer that worked on my system back then.
@biglesp really sad. I've just been out specially to buy the last edition, which was also the last copy in my local Smiths 😕.
@NoSheds Thanks for buying it! I need to pop to my local WH Smiths... which is now in another town as the Blackpool branch closed years ago. I used to enjoy grabbing magazines off a shelf.

@biglesp Sad to see Linux Format go, and now feel guilty as hell as I hadn't bought a copy in many a year.

In the early years the LUG listings were so useful, and we would often have people contact our group as a direct result.
