Interested in all things cyber.

Not to date myself too badly, but I've been working in and around infosec and cybersecurity since the early 90's when it was called ADP (automated data processing) security.

It’s probably once again a bad time, historically speaking, for archdukes to ride in open convertibles.

If your Christmas gift was a camera and you want to make the most of it, consider a photo workshop in the field with me. I am located in the Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, and I am available 365 days a year (including civic holidays). https://www.catherinebabault.com/workshops

(Offer rescinded, people are being crappy in the replies, I can't keep up with this bc it broke containment, I have to step away from this):

I used to work at Starbucks. I know exactly how they make every drink. If you ever want an at-home dupe, let me know what one and I probably know how to make it. If not, I guarantee I can figure it out easily enough. Screw Starbucks and their union busting and various other issues, save yourself a few bucks.

For instance: Their mocha is literally just hot cocoa mix with a pinch of salt, and a little extra sugar, mixed with water. Use a hot cocoa packet, add just enough milk to make it into a thinned paste/thick syrup, and add coffee (instant coffee absolutely works for this) and hot milk. It'll taste better and you can get hot cocoa packs that'll work at a dollar tree for 2 for a buck.

Bari Weiss would probably be very upset if everyone were to download a copy of this video and watch it. It's the 60 Minutes segment on CECOT that CBS pulled off the air in an act of cowardice and capitulation to the fascist regime.

It seems that it was briefly available for users in Canada, and someone was able to make a recording of their screen with the contents.

EDIT: A webrip (non phone recording) to circulate: https://archive.org/details/60minutes-cecotsegment

If you happen to be looking for bad redactions in a large set of data files today for some reason, there's an open source tool for that.

I suggest that you avoid purchasing any products or services from #Adobe.
I base this on my recent experience with Adobe, buyng an upgrade — that fails to run on my computer. There is (apparently) no way for a customer to talk or correspond with a human being at Adobe. Because I have no record of any (impossible) correspondence with any Adobe human, Adobe and my credit card company both decline to issue a refund. REPEAT: I suggest that you avoid purchasing any products or services from Adobe.

The Evidence on #Vaccines and #Autism | Johns Hopkins | Bloomberg School of Public Health

"I’m a #scientist and I believe in the value of science. The science that has been done has shown that vaccines are very safe. They’re not perfectly safe; they do sometimes, very rarely cause adverse reactions.

But when it comes to autism, the science has already largely been done. If you gave me a pot of money and said, let’s do more #vaccine safety research, autism would not be high up on this list because the existing science is already quite compelling."

How a retracted study from the 1990s led to a persistent myth about vaccines.

I think with the double whammy of companies rolling back their diversity programmes (and even removing all references to diversity from their own material) and the push for Generative AI by clueless executives, a lot of orgs have basically set themselves to:

- exclude female and marginalised voices
- have far less diverse views
- given their biggest strategic document voices to 4 Big Tech companies via Copilot etc writing documents.

It's a masterclass in poor decision making.

Despite generating $4.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2025, OpenAI reported a net loss of $13.5 billion. In other words, ignore all sugar coating. They, are losing money heavily https://www.techinasia.com/news/openais-revenue-rises-16-to-4-3b-in-h1-2025

They abandoned the goal cancer cure to produce only rewritten text, images, and 10 second meme videos. They're burning capital on millions of GPUs. The classic VC model. Outspend rivals and use others' copyrighted work without solving a single critical problem. No human suffering solved
