New Scientist reporting that classroom air filters reduce sick days by over 10%. Presumably similar would be true for workplaces.
An air filter for a big room costs in the region of 200-250 euros, so fitting out say a 2000 pupil school would be in the 15k region, plus operating costs - not zero but not huge. It'd be interesting to trial public healthcare bodies placing these to see if it reduced system strain, it could potentially even pay for itself.
The President's "skinny" budget request was released today, and in it NASA gets absolutely decimated. Science is hit with at least $3.426 billion in cuts — less than the leaked passback amount but not by much. This is the largest cut to NASA's budget in American history and if enacted would lead to a surrender of U.S. deep space exploration for generations if enacted. Likewise, NSF stands to be similarly hollowed out at -$3.479 billion for general research and education.
This budget does not make America great. It does exactly the opposite.
When Cornell physicist Robert R. Wilson’s was asked by a Congressional committee member “how a multimillion-dollar particle accelerator improved the security of the country”, Wilson replied "It has only to do with the respect with which we regard one another…. It has nothing to do directly with defending our country except to make it worth defending."
Congress should, and in fact must, reject the President's proposal.
When Reporters without Borders started measuring press freedom in 2002, the US was ranked 17th, which many thought was too low.
Under Trump the US is ranked 57th, just above Gambia, and Trump has now signed an executive order to defund NPR and PBS.

@arstechnica Yes. AI is being used to QA all sorts of things. For things that have formal definitions, like code, the results can be quite thorough.
Once all the issues are identified— some more important than others—someone needs to fix them. Some issues can be autocorrected.

Better predictive text is kinda helpful. Specialty tools are better at code generation (e.g. ActiveRecord)
Everything I've seen done with AI assistance in coding has shown it to be a wash at best and a waste of time at worst.
The goal of AI is to justify mass layoffs then shift the workload to fewer people.
And wage suppression, union busting, and copyright infringement.
@arstechnica AI has its uses and benefits. And - surprise, surprise - scientists and educated people already knew the actual and future benefits before some college-dropout scam billionaires told us how to use AI.
Now, tech-bros distract attention and resources from beneficial uses like meteorology, astronomy, medicine, and genetics, and an abundance of HR, survey, and chatbot bullshit AIs floods the market.
AI will soon enter the "90s Internet Phase": used mainly for porn and scaming.
