Psst. If you want #encrypted #email between yourself and others, the easiest way is to get an "S/MIME X.509 certificate" (I got 1st year free from Actalis, an EU-based trust, €6/year after).
Install the cert & add to your email client. You & friend send signed-only emails to each other to exchange public keys (part of your cert). Then you can send fully encrypted mail to each other, decrypted only on your device.

In 1991, a uni student from Finland started a "hobby" project because he couldn't afford to pay expensive Unix license that could run on a commodity hardware. At the time, he told on the mailing list that his project wouldn't be anything "big or professional."
