@geogoeroe wat heftig, dit is echt schrikken zeg! Heel veel sterkte met het herstel! Bijzonder om te lezen wat er allemaal op je afkomt en hoe je het ervaren hebt.

I’m launching #QwastTube: a #PeerTube‑based, privacy‑friendly alternative to my YouTube channel.
If you care about digital sovereignty and open‑source GIS, this is for you.

I’m still importing videos, but it’s already live:

YouTube will stay in sync for now, but I hope you’ll join me on the fediverse.

Did a complete overhaul of the user interface. I think it's better.

I build a quick&dirty app that shows a status update with coordinates and one photo on a map.

First thing people say is: "aren't there apps for this?"

Of course.

"So why make it?"

Because hands-on creation gives me a deeper understanding of development and UI/UX.

It’s like climbing a mountain versus taking the lift. The view is the same at the top, but the experience is a thousand times richer when you go up on foot.

Today, I chose experience.

A bit of a vulnerable post by me but we need your help to get us through what has been a more difficult period than 2020.

It would be really appreciated if you could read and share in your networks too 💛

It’s been a very hard year - Andy Bell

Unlike a lot of places in tech, my company, Set Studio/Piccalilli has no outside funding. Bootstrapped is what the LinkedIn people say, I think. It’s been a hard year this year. A very hard year. I think a naive person would blame it all on the seemingly industry-wide attitude of “AI can just do this […]

And like @autra mentioned, for this to work and look neat, a UI/UX guideline would be necessary.

Screenshot would be a good start indeed.

Maybe we can get some inspiration from phones. The same thing happens there: an app is being installed and somewhere an icon appears. But it is a lot easier to find it.

Would be cool to have a plugins overview tab with one icon per plugin. Clicking it opens the toolbox in your toolbar at a known location. Of course, you can always pin your toolbox, but not at that location.

Something like my rough sketch in paint

My real #QGIS boss fight: finding which button a newly installed plugin sneaks into the UI.

It's like playing a 'memory' or 'find the differences' game.

Topic #1: Addresses

People can place an order for Christmas cards on https://jannekeschot.nl. Orders need to be shipped, and shipping requires an address.

I have connected the address input field to the Dutch public location service. It's an API with suggest and lookup endpoints. I use those to suggest addresses as the user types, and to get a valid address object with coordinates.

I really like this approach as it simplifies the process of acquiring a valid address for me, and the user
