@jsnell Just checked the @incomparable live schedule and got a pleasant surprise. A Merry Kilmass to all!

If you're a young developer at Apple you have no idea how hard this feedback hits.

So many of your points-of-view change after the first death in the immediate family. That's not likely to happen until your fifties or sixties.

The memorials on our devices are important: I have a weekly reminder to “Check in on mom” that will never be removed because it has a whole new purpose since her death.

A Firefox user has kept 7,400+ browser tabs alive for two years

In a surprising turn of events, a Firefox power user managed to keep over 7,400 browser tabs alive for more than two years. The user has plans to keep them open in the foreseeable future.

mastodon is full of busybodies/cops that all have impossible, contradictory standards about what comes across their feeds and you should post selling your art as much as you want if for no other reason than it makes them mad

I follow a lot of trans and non-binary people, but most of you are young and I am older... Where are all the older (40+) people who are trans and non-binary?

Boost for reach and say hi if this is you when this reaches you 👋

Periodic reminder that the "Direct Message" / "Private Mention" function here is dangerously broken with confusing semantics.

- Anyone mentioned *anywhere* in the body of a PM gets a copy.

- "Disabling" PMs in your profile merely means YOU never see messages sent to you; senders can still send them, with no error indication.

- Nothing is encrypted, which means administrators on any instance that processes a message can see them.

I strongly recommend using something else for private messages.

The word "excellent" is derived from the Christian practice of giving up the use of Microsoft Excel for 40 days to commemorate Christ's sacrifice.

It is a period of great productivity.

The date of lent is calculated by using an obscure Excel macro on a field that didn't originally have anything to do with dates, but Excel converted it to one anyway.

Surprising fact: no major professional scientific organization has flipped from a paywalled publishing model to 100% Open Access.

The @ACM the world's foremost professional computing organization, is going to be the first on January 1, 2026, when its entire digital library will become freely available to the public.
