My experience of the #fediverse :

Year 1 (2023):
It feels a little lonely as 99% of my friends stayed on Big Tech platforms.

Year 2 (2024):
I start a blog - #TheFutureIsFederated - to explain the fediverse to "normies"... and I make a lot of new (techie) friends.

Year 3 (2025):
My techie friends encourage me to start self-hosting with #YunoHost... and I do! (GoToSocial, PeerTube, NextCloud...) I LOVE it.

Year 4 (2026):
I plan to buy a Heltec to try out off-grid mesh radio communication 💁‍♀️

Tardigrades, the toughest animals in the Universe, failed to survive in simulated Martian regolith (surface material).

Researchers tested tardigrades with exposure to martian regolith simulants; their health and activity declined substantially over 4 days. Curiously, they did much better when the regolith was washed, leaching away some of the salts and other chemical compounds.

Testing on plants, animals and humans TBD.

I was wondering why there is no new release of the #musicproduction software #LMMS since 2020. I was thinking the project was dead. today i checked the discussions on their github page and i learned that the new version is on the way. 🥹 @LMMS #foss #daw
People spend billions of dollars on advertising, normalization, and bullying to try to convince you that hegemony, patriarchy, and oppression are the natural order of things and that we would always ultimately end up here. If there were truly no other options for how to live as a society, would they need to expend so much effort?
Algorithmic media systems have broken collective sense-making. Deepfakes and synthetic media accelerate a post-evidentiary condition. Institutions are responding with technical theater instead of structural change. The real scarcity is no longer information, but information processing capacity. Power now flows from asymmetries in cognition, not access.

When i transitioned from big tech social media to #fediverse i unfollowed everybody on my #instagram. Somehow my instagram feed became less shitty than before. I think i broke free from other people's influence on my #algorithm. Jean-Paul Sartre was right, "#Hell is other #people".
