Massive thank you to
@8bitesquire —I don't think he's active on Mastodon but I've crossposted a version of this to the birdsite—for shipping this PVM clear across the country to me. I feel incredibly lucky to have won the giveaway he organized.

He never asked for any promotion (or anything else) in return, but I'm going to anyway. If you love retro games, and especially playing on original hardware, you owe it to yourself to visit

@gullfot Despite registering an account here years ago, I still feel like I'm getting my fediverse bearings and have never left the 'default' server as a consequence. But a community like the one you described would appeal to me as well.

post.lurk.org is interesting, but isn't currently accepting new members.

i don't know much about sonumu.club, but it was suggested on lines (which grew out of the old monome.org forums) as another community of sonic weirdos.

@raygan this thread appeared at just the right time for me. I finally caved and bought a Steam Deck when they discounted it a bit during the Spring Sale, and I've been loving everything about it *except* my experience with EmuDeck, which has been a nightmare from the start.

Now I'm faced with the dilemma of whether to factory reset my Deck to fully wipe any trace of EmuDeck from my system, as the reputation of their uninstaller script is... not great.

@jsnell Catching up on Upgrade and just heard the episode with Gruber.

Your comment about a Netflix "channel" that streams episodes of The Crown (or whatever) on a loop reminded me of maybe my favorite genre of streaming:

Twitch channels that just broadcast archival content 24/7. The most famous is probably the Bob Ross Joy of Painting channel, but my favorite is http://twitch.tv/oldtimeycomputershow which airs instructional videos, keynotes, and general interest tech shows from the olden times.

maybe later i'll add to this list, for now that's all i've got. if you read any of it, thanks for indulging me, hopefully this list of homework i've assigned myself is somehow illuminating, "in lieu of, uh, other things"

#introduction

#Figma never truly stole me away from #Sketchapp and after the Adobe acquisition it never will. but i do want to keep tabs on what emerges from the ashes. maybe @penpot maybe something else.

#StableDiffusion #DALLE2 #Midjourney et al are almost certainly objectively a mistake, and harbingers of some horrible dystopic future, but i can't help but be fascinated. no particular objective here, i just want to better understand these tools and the context around them.

@vertis regarding masto, i was an early adopter, then an early neglecter and and early abandoner. now i suppose i'm an overdue returner. but i'm trying my best!

#introduction

⇢ get back on a regular practice schedule with my #bass guitar. learn all the Jamerson lines. okay, fine, most of them.

(the remaining musical action items are FORBIDDEN until I sell the guitars I've left to gather dust)

⇢ buy an inexpensive digital #piano (maybe a Kawai ES110) and rebuild the chops that have atrophied for far too long. learn all the Woody Goss/ #Vulfpeck melodies. okay, fine, most, etc.

⇢ try to avoid going down the #Eurorack #ModularSynth rabbit hole, again.

#introduction

⇢ acquire a DE10-Nano #FPGA and assemble a #MiSTer (most likely with a Multisystem board from @RMCretro)

⇢ crack open my Sony #Trinitron CRT, adjust the yoke, recap, and perform an RGB mod with SCART output for optimal #CRTGaming

⇢ keep practicing on my #Arcade stick (mostly #StreetFighter - Super Turbo, Alpha 2/3, 3rd Strike, SFV and 6 when it comes out)

⇢ explore whether I need another #RetroGaming handheld in my life other than my #MiyooMini (or just get a #SteamDeck)

#introduction

"list your interests" is the sort of prompt (along with "what music are you into?" and "say something funny!") that makes my brain seize up. instead here are some projects i'm working on now or hope to begin soon

⇢ investigate the #fediverse more deeply & determine whether i ought to relocate to a more niche #instance

⇢ build a #webapp that isn't sexy or trendy but meets a demonstrated need (however mundane) for actual humans, in the spirit of Bingo Card Creator by @[email protected]
