and so the rest of the hour was spent talking about ASD & its many criteria, and more often than not i felt like the "DiCaprio pointing at TV" meme

i'm not sure of anything yet of course but it might be worthwhile to look into this further

i got my fourth therapy session yesterday and right at the start the therapist asked me "hey so we've not been talking for very long but i was wondering, have you ever got diagnosed, or have you ever explored autism spectrum disorder?", and i was like

:O

For a piece I’m working on, I’m looking to talk to trans people about menopause!

Do you have feelings about how gendered menopause is? Did experiencing (peri)menopause change how you feel about your gender? Did you know that gender-affirming surgery might make you suddenly menopausal?

If this is you and you’re up for answering some questions for me, please drop me an email at [email protected]!

(And if this isn't you, please boost this post!)

In any case, Oath is great precisely because it's designed to played several times & enjoyed differently each time: players live inside the consequences of last game's endgame and what's being played influences and shape the next games. Just like Root's variability enabled by its many factions & boards & decks of cards, it tricks my brain into thinking i'm playing a new thing when in reality i'm still exploring this one game. It's lovely 😌

This is so cool! Watch what happens when I water some dried-out moss. (3-minute time lapse) 🌱

One thing i like (and also get a bit frustrated) about board games is, it's so easy to want to play lots of stuff; but whereas when i'm playing videogames i can try new things every day, dip in and out of a few games at the same time, and do things on my own schedule; board games much more often demand to be played several times in order to really get what they're about, and (apart from a few exceptions) you can't play them without other people. Which is great, because i'm plagued by a constant desire to always try new things, so here i'm encouraged to take my time with one game over two sessions or more! And also it's frustrating because there's so many other cool games out there and i want to play themmmmm but it's oh so expensive and i'd need friends who are just as unreasonable as i can be 🥲
Last month i played Cole Werhle's board game Oath for the first time, and it instantly rekindled the flame of my board game hyperfixation. I've had two games of it so far, it's such a weird and complex thing that confuses me a bit but is absolutely fascinating to think about ✨ And so i've been itching to play more of it, as well as play more board games in general.
I got myself the Wilmot's Warehouse board game and The Crew, can't wait to discover them with friends!
And you, what board games or card games have you been playing lately?

woke up from my art grotto to take part in Rhianna Berthoud's #dtiys challenge over on instagram yesterday :) her characters & creatures are always so fun and they were lovely to translate in my style!
(my picture is the first one, Rhianna's is the second one)
