Do you know the political, abolitionist history of the song O Holy Night?

It began with controversy in France about the duo who wrote the song: the lyrics were penned by an atheist who embraced socialism, and the music was composed by a Jew. A decade later, controversy in the US emerged over the English translation’s strong abolitionist message.

Despite people with power trying to suppress it, it became and remains a well-loved carol.

Here's a story in the spirit of the season:

Greg Abbott sent 3 busloads of migrants from Texas and had them dropped off in front of the VP's residence in DC around 8pm.

They were briefly left standing outside in 14 DEGREE WEATHER before being picked up by the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network and moved to a local church.

Really is no amount of cruelty these people can't justify if gets them five minutes on Tucker Carlson.

We need diverse representation not only so every kid can see themselves as the hero of the story, but so that every kid can understand that *other* kinds of kids are *also* the heroes of the story.

Folks, if you are planning to leave twitter, i STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT DEACTIVATING YOUR ACCOUNT. Instead, do the following:
- lock your account
- use a deleter to delete your tweets
- if you want your account to be ~unrecoverable, change the password to gibberish & don't save it

Shocking. Musk’s Twitter has just blocked people trying to read/share a Byline Times article.

It’s never happened to Byline Times before. Reader suppression, if you will - on an article about voter suppression, ironically.

They even put up a warning when you try to retweet eg the viral post of this article by the Electoral Reform Society (verified for the RIGHT reason, not paid) that Byline Times may be a harmful website!

Look -- I'm verified on Mastodon, and all it took was applying a little HTML know-how to my website. No $8 needed! How refreshing. :) #TwitterMigration #Verification

Also, this #SalemMA exit poll quote that mentions Elon Musk is everything: “ My dream dream... if I were Elon Musk today and not a jackass, I’d buy Pioneer Village and make it the best, a rival to Plymouth Plantation.”

Great reporting as always from Dustin Luca.

The Salem News reports that the Mass. gubernatorial election results, which sent two women to lead a U.S. state for the first time in history, is also one of #SalemMA's most consequential: Incoming lieutenant governor Kim Driscoll has been Salem’s mayor for 17 years, and her move to the state house will be a big change for Salem:
