Anarchist rabbit living in #rural "Ontario"

Always interested in: #anarchy, small towns and #middle-of-nowhere locales, ending Canada, #communal lives, building better #anti-colonial praxis, non-terfy schools of #sex-negative #feminism, critiques of gender and sexuality, writing and thinking better, theorizing #friendship/#subculture/community.

Currently trying to learn about: #childbirth, #parenting, making friends as a grown-up, working less and doing more.

@franklinlopez it's okay, I needed that moment of pure joy even if it turned out to be fake.
@franklinlopez sadly I think this is not yet true, or rather it's his potential place in the "order of canada" đŸđŸ€ą that may be worm food, not his actual person.
Remember the world before #smartphones? Remember when people were getting punched in the subway for being iPhone early adopters? Remember when people sometimes had to make eye contact with strangers? Now Sesame Street has #Smartie, Elmo's little buddy who helps him "looooook it up!" and I don't even feel like I can be mad about it because yep, that is the world my #kids were born into.

Salon du livre anarchiste // Anarchist Bookfair

Français ci-dessous WORKSHOP SCHEDULE 10:30AM - 12:00PM Taking Everything: Revolutionary Anarchism in Greece, Eastern Europe, and Latin America (CÉDA, room 119, English) This discussion is interested in anarchism as a revolutionary tendency. We want the expropriation of property and the liberation of territory on a massive scale through widespread social uprising and resonating anarchist participation. For a few years in Ukraine in the 1910s, up to seven million people lived inside of territory liberated by anarchist forces. In recent years, anarchists have built barricades in Chile and Greece, defending neighbourhoods, creating liberated spaces for housing, and looting goods. They've played essential roles in not just participating in – something we can do easily here in Montreal – but setting off uprisings – something that requires much more influence. Broad participation and engagement with anarchism is something we all say we want and it is worth understanding at a deeper level. It is not enough to see other groups' most appealing successes and want to replicate them, we need to understand the kinds of smaller projects, structures, and analysis in the years leading up to these events that have enabled anarchists to become more than an alienated milieu of a few dozen or hundred people. Particular interest will be given to lesser known groups, initiatives, and texts, which are well-documented and have proven to be reliable successes that could be replicated in Montreal. If we can implement the lessons from other places, we can bring ourselves closer to a revolution. SimĂłn is an anarchist from Montreal. Artificial Intelligence through a Radical Lens (CÉDA, room 123, English) A capitalist vision of so-called artificial intelligence (AI) is ubiquitous in mainstream discourse and has begun to penetrate many aspects of our lives. The mainstream discourse is divided into techno-enthusiasts happy with the idea of deploying AI into every corner of our lives and AI doomers who believe these developments portend human extinction and AI-driven apocalypse. Both views overlook the reality that AI is already widely used as a weapon of war by the usual suspects, and as a tool of exploitation, surveillance and control by the capitalist class. Its widespread deployment is also measurably harming the planet, by requiring a growing quantity of energy and material resources. As anticapitalist activists, how can we respond to the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence in the world around us? Should we ignore it, oppose it, or reappropriate it as a tool for radical change? This workshop builds upon its first iteration in 2024 and is intended to continue the discussion. This discussion will be facilitated by members of Science for the People, a radical community organization that seeks to develop a theory and practice of science by and for the people, in opposition to science directed by corporate greed and imperialism. 12:15PM - 1:45PM Towards an Anarchist Analysis of Cancer (CÉDA, room 119, English) This workshop will start with a short presentation about the facilitator's attempt at understanding her experience with breast cancer from an anarcho feminist perspective. Themes include the defunding of the healthcare system in Canada, the privatization of healthcare in Quebec, gender trouble in cancerland, the climate crisis and cancer treatment, and the cancer foundation industrial complex. After the presentation, there will be a discussion about the politics of cancer and cancer treatment. Please keep in mind that the facilitator is not a trained trauma therapist, nor grief worker. While there are lots of emotional aspects of the cancer diagnosis and treatment experience, we will be trying to keep our discussion focused on analyzing our experiences collectively and finding political meaning together. Veronica is a white, queer woman who was diagnosed with stage 2, hormone positive, HER2 negative invasive ductal carcinoma at the age of 35. She is a long time anarchist organizer who has been most active in the prisoner justice movement in Montreal. Anti-Authoritarian Horizons (CÉDA, room 123, French) No one likes to be told what to do! Nevertheless, we sometimes find the traces of authority in individual behaviors and in groups structures on the radical left... CLAC (Convergence des luttes anticapitalistes) proposes a workshop to theorize, discuss and test what a horizontal and anti-authoritarian organization might look like. You're invited to reflect with us on how to reduce power dynamics in our milieu towards anti-authoritarian horizons. CLAC spreads anti-capitalist, anti-oppressive, anti-authoritarian and decolonial ideas and practices while functioning according to non-hierarchical principles. It's a space for collective organizing to oppose the violence of the State and capital. Militant or Military? The Organization of Violence (CÉDA, room 125, French) How do we adopt a nuanced attitude toward the necessity of armed self-defense in the context of extremely violent conflicts? When the level of violence of a struggle rises, how do we ensure that autonomy and mutual aid continue to orient our activity rather than the priorities of armed groups that often pass themselves off as "the resistance"? In a moment when the militarized struggles led by specific armed groups are glorified, it is more important than ever to mark the difference between militant and military action. In other words, the difference between tactics and forms of escalation arising from the self-organization of oppressed classes and those imposed by groups specialized in organized violence. This workshop takes inspiration from anarchist perspectives on the Syrian Revolution and Italian autonomy in the 60s and 70s to propose some starting points for preventing the domination of armed groups over struggles that become violent. Cedar is an anarchist from Hamilton. 2:00PM - 3:00PM "All Will Be Equalized!": Georgia's Freedom-Seekers of the Swamps, Backwoods, and Sea Islands 1526-1890 (CÉDA, room 119, English) Historian-activist Andrew Zonneveld will present a new book documenting a 300-year period of dynamic and multi-racial resistance to slavery and colonialism in the southeastern U.S. From rebellious Afro-Indigenous communities on Georgia's Sea Islands, to inter-racial networks of anti-Confederate resistance during the U.S. Civil War, these are the stories of oppressed peoples of African, Indigenous, and European descent who lived and fought together for their collective liberation. Andrew Zonneveld is a Georgia-based historian, master naturalist, an anarchist organizer. His essays on social movement history have been published in a number of books and periodicals, including ROAR Magazine, Mergoat Magazine, and Orobo Journal. Reading of The Mega-Adventures of Koko Sisi et Kiki Pupu by the Authors (CÉDA, room 123) English: 2:00PM-2:30PM French: 2:30PM-3:00PM This interactive reading and workshop will bring The Mega Adventures of Koko Sisi and Kiki Pupu: The Mystery of the Stolen Bananas to life with authors Papi and El Choco. The session will feature a bilingual reading in French and English, ensuring that kids of all backgrounds can fully enjoy the adventure. Following the reading, there will be a Q&A session where children and parents can ask questions about the book, the creative process, and how anyone can make their own children’s book. The goal is to promote literacy, storytelling, and DIY publishing in an accessible and inspiring way. The authors will also be available to sign books after the session, making this a fun and memorable experience for attendees. Papi is an anarchist filmmaker from Borike and his kid el choco is a boy who loves to read and play. They co-authored the book "The Mega Adventures of Koko Sisi and Kiki Pupu". 3:15PM - 5:00PM Lead 101 and Tenant Organizing: We Keep Us Safe! (CÉDA, room 119, English) By default, MontrĂ©al tenants should assume that they experience preventable lead exposure. In this workshop, we will have a collective discussion on the long-term health effects of lead from paint, plumbing, and other household sources: Where is lead found? Who is at risk? What does it do to our bodies? How can we use our collective power to keep ourselves safe? We’ll discuss the history and politics of lead use and lead poisoning while highlighting the power of tenant unions and grassroots organizing in preventing exposure. In Saturday’s workshop demo, we will discuss the limitations of lead water testing and the different filters available, as well as the importance of demanding filters from our employers and landlords by default. Paint and metal testing swabs will be distributed. Participants will be invited to meet back up in Parc Vinet on Sunday for a discussion and careful interpretation of test results and to make a plan to support each other in acting collectively! 1. SLAM – A union of tenants helping each other fight landlords. 2. CACV – Housing committee working in the defence of tenant's rights in the Verdun community since 1970. 3. SftP – An organization of anti-capitalist scientists and friends of science. The Defense of the Nehirowisiw Aski: Discussion with Land Defenders (CÉDA, room 123, French) Joins us for a presentation by Nehirowisiw (Atikamekw) land defenders on their struggle to protect their ancestral land against the aggression of colonial resource extraction companies. The defenders will explain the context of their struggle, share some updates, and propose ways to support the continuation of their fight. The workshop will be given by members of the Nehirowisiw Aski Land Defenders Association. This Association is born from the will of a group of Nehirowisiw from different communities to unite their forces and capabilities to promote their culture in all its forms and honor their cultural responsibility to take care of the land and water along with the natural habitats of many animals. Rural Anarchists on Living In The Country (Outside, English) This workshop is intended for anarchists and anarchist-influenced people who live in the country or are curious about it. We will explore questions like: What unique possibilities exist for relationship building and collective liberation in rural spaces for anarchists? How does being an anarchist inform and influence our lives rurally? How does access to and connection with land influence our anarchist practices? How can we create more space rurally for anarchists and grassroots anarchic initiatives? What unique challenges do anarchists face living rurally? How can anarchists living rurally practice engaged solidarity with struggles and continue to fight against systems of domination?  Facilitated by several anarchists from different regions who live in the country. OTHER EVENTS 2:00PM - 5:00PM: Tea & Reading Room: Anarchist Fictions (CÉDA, room 125) A reading circle on the theme of anarchist fictions offering an informal space to share and discuss some recent anarchist fiction writing that has inspired us. With tea! The tea and reading room is intended as a space for people to gather, meet, reflect, and also simply to exist and feel welcome during what can be an overwhelming experience during the bookfair. A reading is planned to kick things off, Subcomandante SaĂșl Reyna Discusses Alienation of the Lover from the Beloved by Oso Guardiola, and the rest of the time is open, feel free to bring a reading to share. TABLES Tablers are listed here. Constellation
@echo @anarchybookfair @cedar just to clarify, I don't think the op (cedar) is an organizer of constellation. But yeah, I do think we should behave our best even when other people are behaving shitty. And being a formal, process-y collective that takes two months to respond to anything isn't the problem here, issuing ridiculous statements trying to reclaim the event they abandoned by insinuating that everybody but them is racist definitely *is* the problem.
@spongmonkey @cedar @anarchybookfair I don't have access anymore to the non-masto socials but wasn't there a "the anarchist bookfair is dead!" post, which I assume is the one the collective is referencing in their post that they think was giving them the finger? Like honestly, I loved the constellation event and thought it went great but I would personally take their post last year about how they can't do a bookfair because the world is too bad and there is a war as like "the previous collective is unable to organize the bookfair so we are stepping up" and say nothing else about them or their (it turns out untrue) post where they cancelled their event. The official callout even appeared to be arguing with them a bit, like "a bad war and the world are precisely the reasons there should be a bookfair!" Like yeah, that is true, but also "I'm too sad, can't do the bookfair this year" (if true) would be a legit thing to say. If it were a true statement you'd think you'd then be happy when someone else took it on though, which clearly @anarchybookfair was not and just wanted the thing to not happen without them, which is ridiculous.
@cedar @anarchybookfair
I agree with pretty much everything said in @cedar's post, although I do also think @constellations could have toned down the "f-- you" a bit with their promo last year. That said, I think you know they're not gonna respond to your critique, because a collective like that would have to have approximately 4 meetings and a never-ending riseup pad to draft a response to such a thing and that's just not gonna happen in social media time. As annoying as that is I do think we have to just respect and accept that organizing process in the same way as we wish they would respect ours. Their post is totally unacceptable but I think it's important to get truly ok with the fact that people organize in different ways and to build each other up whenever we can, even if other people are behaving super badly.

Constellation 2025 presents...

**Anarchist Bookfair**
*Saturday, May 17*

**Anarchist Skill Faire**
*Sunday, May 18*

CÉDA – 2515 rue Delisle, Montreal

Constellation will be back in 2025, but things are going to look a bit different this year! Instead of one weekend, the festival will span an entire week, from May 15th to the 21st. Like last year, we encourage everyone to submit events to the online calendar (to be relaunched soon). We'll also be organizing two large events on Saturday and Sunday. Keep reading for more info!

~~~~~
**Anarchist Bookfair**
Saturday, May 17 – CÉDA
As you probably guessed, the Anarchist Bookfair will be happening again--same place, same time, same general idea. Tablers will be able to set up inside and outside CÉDA (no CCGV) with books, zines, art, and other materials relevant to anarchy. We'll also have access to a handful of rooms in CÉDA and spots in Parc Vinet for book talks, workshops, discussions, reading circles, and more! We're hoping that the content of events on this day can be a bit more conceptual or theoretical. Think reading circle of your favourite anarchist essay, discussion on an ongoing social struggle, workshop sharing new perspectives on security culture, and all that kind of fun stuff.
**Anarchist Skill Faire**
Sunday, May 18 – CÉDA
As for Sunday, we are excited to host the Montreal Anarchist Skill Faire (10 points if you spotted the bilingual pun). Remember school science fairs? We want to do something similar, but with more anarchy (trifold displays welcome). We call for a tabling event that brings a chaotic and dazzling range of anarchist-relevant skills together with the purpose of sharing it freely. Maybe you want to give tips on protest first aid, provide a hands-on introduction to lockpicking, or teach people how to set up a mesh network.  Anything goes, as long as it centres the diffusion of hands-on knowledge and practical skills. There will also be rooms for more intensive, workshop-length skillshares!
~~~~~

Anarchists have had an enduring understanding that theory and practice can't (and probably shouldn't) be separated. Ideas incite action, practice inspires theory, and politics influence the types of skills we seek to develop. Theoretical and conceptual conversations will touch on practice and have implications for action. Discussions related to hands-on knowledge and practical skills will be shaped by ideas and be of relevance to theory. We're organizing Saturday and Sunday along these two themes as an experiment, and we recognize that both are equally important and intrinsically linked to one another.

We want Constellation 2025 to be engaging and accessible to people of all ages! Once again, childcare and kid-friendly activities will be provided at the Kids Zone in CÉDA. We also encourage festival-goers to organize workshops and skillshares geared toward young people on either Saturday or Sunday.

**Get Involved**

The table reservation and workshop application forms will be available soon. Check our website or social media pages later this month to learn more. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to reach us at [email protected].
