The Education Project (India) started with a group of students aiming to spread active discourse around Education and Academia with respect (but not conformity) to the Indian Culture and Environment.

We hope to help create a de-centralized, distributed and open-access culture around education/pedagogy and help young academics develop their independent agency and pursuits democratically.

@BlueDot teaching should definitely be paid well. But india has a predatory #education culture where schools and private tuition co-ops are violating student agency and health by embedding false perception of aspirations and inspiring ruthless competition. Another way theyre abusing is by both providing bare-minimum labor and resources while capitalizing on the hype/capitalist culture by raising prices while gaslighting on and misrepresenting academic disciplines. @projecteducationin

#IIT Kharagpur’s National Digital Library of India is a great resource for Indian students. Access it here: http://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in/

@rysiek at https://OERFoundation.org, we're building a fully #FOSS virtual university, where all the courses & materials are available under Free Cultural Works-approved licenses (e.g. CC-BY, CC-BY-SA). All our custom code & many configurations are in https://git.oeru.org (we prefer #Copyleft) - we moved it all from Github when Microsoft acquired it. We're also building a #Fediverse-enabled community for educators (still early days): https://FOSSDLE.org (FOSS Digital Learning Ecosystem).

tbh where are all the #bipoc educators at? #edutooter #education

What would an ethical business model for a Spoken English (or generally any other type of tuitions that dont require much infrastructure expense) classes look like for an individual-run #tuition ?

I do have a building to run it in but I'm uncomfortable at charging people money for #education but need to sustain the business somehow.

Usually there's a one time fee around me in the city for similar businesses in which the course spans for a certain number of months.

What are some of the ways an Education-Focused project could raise (the amount and level of) open-ended discussions and awareness on regular and ever-growing authoritarian, institutional and cultural abuse of student's #academic & #financial agency and mental health in the country?

The goal with partaking in such an endeavour would be to help students and young academics recognize abusive patterns and either pressure the institutions to change their ways, raise awareness on how one could navigate such systems or to help kick start a completely new, #democratic and independent culture of #education and #academia?

sadly no, we speak from our collective experiences, though you can find similar stories in every journalistic story covering the ever-growing number of student suicide, there's a lot, A LOT MORE to cover on what is happening in the background, something the project is trying to get addressed.

Our sincere apologies, we just properly launched.

We will get to work to address these issues in a more formal fashion.

@KaiserScience @academicchatter @edutooters

Almost every kind. Ranging from willfull misrepresentation of academic disciplines in order to curtain their incompetency to actively and violently abusing students' academic instinct of curiousity, questioning and desire for interpersonal dialogue by attacking their innate identity as students. Not to mention a constant attack on student privacy and mental health and blatant misogyny towards female students.

We can actually provide you with instances from our every day life and the radio of abusive to healthy environment would be 9:1. We barely get by in our secondary schooling and higher education without needing active therapy, which itself has not been culturally accepted by the mass.

The system as it stands today condones and supports these kinds of behavior. I, @edendestroyer perceive the system and culture to be corrupted to the core and hence urge fellow students to hold active discourse on it and help indian academia start anew

@academicchatter @edutooters

The issue stands in creating a structured approach to hosting discourse over a subject that is as sensitive as academia is to the Indian context.

And not just that, but developing inspired movements that aids in an active #philosophical and #scientific experimentation and approach to education, with promotion of a culture that lets students heed to their #academic instinct. Such an approach should help break traumatic patterns propagated by the traditional institutions towards young academics/students.

For reference on how the community is attempting to go about with the project currently:

1) We have a #matrix space where we vent on our experiences, attempt to study the system and conduct ephemeral discussions on where to take the project next.

2) We have this #fediverse page where we attempt to reach a wider group of students and academics through the means of #microblogging

3) We do have a #writefreely blog which we have not yet touched or utilized to its potentials.

4) We recently have attempted to experiment with a #telegram channel as it has more Indian users than the fediverse but is less privacy intrusive than BigTech platforms.

5) All members of the community are actively encouraged to pursue their own creative instincts and endeavors using their own means and platforms when it comes to #academic communication and active discourse around the subject.
