We are experimenting with a #telegram channel currently to reach Indian students and academics, as it has more users than on the fediverse but isn't as privacy intrusive as BigTech platforms.
(although the privacy features for private texting on it aren't up to standards due to a lack of end to end encryption on basic chats)
