Ever wanted to use SSH to connect to an embedded Linux system over the serial port instead of suffering through some janky login program that supports very limited terminal features?

Well, I did, and the tooling didn't exist, so I made it.

It also supports ppp automatically.

https://pretalx.linuxtage.at/glt26/talk/ARZU9Q/

Cu there!

Tatort 🤡-IT Grazer Linuxtage 2026

Getting in the mood for #glt26 with my e-ink in the park. Caveats: The e-ink is running shady software (but at least android, so i can have termux) and the ssh connection to my desktop is a bit choppy.

Plasma is getting better and better and the time has come to install it on your friends and parents computers.
All you have to do in 2026 to migrate someone to linux is pick a sane base distro, like fedora or debian, install plasma and the
kde software suite on it and show them how to install and upgrade packages. That's it.

Additional recomendations: If they have older windows software they still use, install them the bottles flatpak and show them how to use it.
If they really need office, show them how to use it in the browser. If they ever used photoshop, show them krita.

Additional opinion on picking the distro: I think if they are a tinkerer, don't hesitate and give them an archlinux install. arch-install exists and it takes no time to get kde plasma installed with it. They will love the archwiki and probably profit from the AUR at some point.

For many people, the #Linux vs #Windows vs #Mac debate is a privilege — it assumes you can choose. But working with the Computer Upcycle Project, I've seen the real choice is often Linux vs no computer at all.

~95% of donated computers are "too old" for Windows 11 or macOS. Linux installs on them anyway, adding 10+ years of life to machines #Microsoft and #Apple called trash.

This isn't Linux vs Windows. It's Linux vs e-waste.

In other news, I finally allocated some time this weekend to do some maintenance work and get wl-clipboard 2.3 out.

People have long been asking for a new release (especially once KDE decided to just drop wlr-data-control support). However, it takes time and effort even to review & test & merge (with changes...) incoming PRs; maintenance work is work too.
